Quarterly Update

A very warm hello as I bring you the penultimate owner’s newsletter for 2018, and quite likely the last from me. Here I hand the baton over to our new Marketing Manager Charlotte Hayes, who will be joining us with a wealth of experience gained over many years working for The Dorchester Collection and Vineyard Group. It’s been my absolute pleasure bringing you all the news and insights from Unique HQ over the last four and a half years and I am supremely excited to be returning in January after a short sabbatical, forming our new Creative & Brand team with former Interior Design consultant Jess Clark.

Looking back over the last three months, after a frosty spring, the UK’s sunniest June since 1976 saw us a flurry of last minute bookings which helped fill availability for the summer holidays. We finished with 3.5% more nights booked across the portfolio than we did last summer, which was a great success for us given the media’s projected nervousness around UK tourism earlier in the year. Forward bookings for next summer are already looking strong, where we are tracking 3% ahead on nights booked compared to where we were at this point last year.

We were very pleased to see an increase in repeat visitors for the season, with 33% having used Unique Home Stays before. Also interesting to note was the increased demand for properties which welcomed dogs and children – accounting for 29% and 35% of bookings respectively.

As we wrap-up the season there was one testimonial in particular I wanted to share:

I want to thank Unique Home Stays for opening my eyes. You have somehow developed the ability to find places of true wonder, only matched by your ability to find the unique accommodation that resides there. It really is trip of a lifetime kind of stuff.”

We couldn't do this without you, so I'd like to close by thanking you for your continued hard work and support. I very much look forward to raising a glass with those of you who are able to join myself and the team tomorrow evening at Pearl's Place!

Five years ago the owners of Zamani had their lives changed forever when their daughter Emily, whilst away at university, tragically suffered sudden unexpected death in epilepsy (SUDEP). Rachel and Bharat, Emily’s parents, along with their daughter Amy and partner James are driving from the UK to Turkey in a little Indian TukTuk to raise awareness and funds for SUDEP Action. The six week journey of 3700 miles takes them through 21 countries to represent the 21 people a week who die from epilepsy.

To support the TukTuk tour, we (the Unique Home Stays team) will be walking the entirety of the Cornish coast path. Follow our progress and share the TukTuk team’s journey with your family and friends, knowing any donation you are able to make will be put towards a very worthwhile charity.
