Luxury self-catering accommodation in Cadgwith Cove

Down on the south coast of Cornwall, just behind the rugged Lizard Peninsula, this pretty little cove is full of seafaring legend and is still a working fishing port, popular with visitors in summer.

The name Cadgwith is known by anyone with an ear for a Cornish folk song, as a standard number sung in pubs over the years. These days, the thatched Cadgwith Cove Inn pulls pints of local beer for guests taking time out within its ancient stone walls. Cadgwith has always had strong maritime links; fishermen still pull boats in and out of the waters; beachgoers pick about the shoreline in summer; and all about the place are reminders of its ancient history, like the old lifeboat house that once kept watch over the cove, as well as an old customs house.

Head south from Cadgwith across the beautiful South West Coast Path and you'll soon be walking past a unique geological feature known as The Devil's Frying Pan, the result of a sizeable cave roof-collapse; the resulting boulder-filled bay is seen to 'boil' during stormy weather. Binoculars are essential for anyone continuing on towards The Lizard, especially for twitchers hoping to catch a glimpse of the elusive Cornish Chough, now said to be nesting in the area, while geologists hope to find veins of the serpentine rock from which many local houses are built.
