Luxury self-catering accommodation in Castle Combe
This old Cotwolds village is often known for its film fame, exuding old-stone charm with its pretty yellow cottages, hilly streets and stunning high-up views.
If a dreamy self-catering holiday escape not far from bigger towns is what you crave, with all the picturesque magic of a bygone age, then Castle Combe fits the bill. Often billed as 'the prettiest village in England', the village's delightful streets full of gorgeous houses, quirky shops, eateries and a stunning 13th-century church are all more than enough to keep visitors entertained. Once a busy part of the wool industry, the village still retains reminders its past, such as the 'Weaver's House' cottage, and of course, the babbling river that powered the mill running sweetly through town.
With such pretty country scenes, it's no surprise that Castle Combe has been a film set on more than one occasion: Doctor Doolittle, War Horse and Stardust all portray the village in one or more scenes. When the peace and quiet become too loud, speed freaks can head to Castle Combe Circuit and test their mettle on the tracks: race and track days are both on offer. There are lots of ways to get out and about on foot, too. Several walking routes start and end in the village, and it's easy to seek out one of the many pubs and tea shops for refreshments at the end.
