Introduction
Quietly tucked away down a country lane in the sleepy hamlet of Upton Noble, Candlewick Cottage offers a warm welcome to guests looking for some peaceful rejuvenation and time out. With classic country-style interiors and boasting a cinema room, spacious gardens, and access to an outdoor pool and tennis court, this luxury self-catering retreat truly does have it all.
Bedrooms and Bathrooms
Candlewick Cottage has one double and one twin bedroom (which can be arranged as a double if preferred), each accessed by a separate winding staircase. Both bedrooms boast fine crisp linens, with farmhouse-style doors and stripped wooden floors adding a certain charm. The bedrooms are interlinked but the doors can be pulled tight shut to offer privacy. There is a country-style family bathroom on the first floor with a bath with hand-held shower over, as well as an additional WC on the ground floor. The charming original cottage windows reveal a verdant pastoral landscape of rolling hills and views over the Vale of Somerset which will prove a welcome tonic for guests cutting free from the city for a country escape.
Outside
To the front of Candlewick Cottage is an enclosed cottage garden which boasts a well-tended lawn (game of croquet anyone?), succulent fruit trees, and an al fresco dining area which will be a favourite spot to sit and catch the last of the day's sun rays with a favourite tipple. Beside the cottage you will find the tennis court and outdoor swimming pool (unheated but with solar cover, surrounded by yew hedging) which both sit below the owner's house. Feel free to use these facilities whenever the urge takes you!
For Relaxation
What better way to start the day than with a few laps of the pool before returning to your country kitchen to enjoy a leisurely breakfast planning the day's adventures? Whip up your very own hot buttered popcorn before settling down for a classic movie night in the first floor cinema room or in front of the log burner, guaranteed to keep everyone entertained whatever the weather.
Practicalities
The property has private parking for two cars. There is an Aga, dishwasher, microwave, washing machine and separate tumble dryer.

Our Take
Property Consultant Samantha says
Candlewick Cottage absolutely bowled me over with its rural charm and perfection, idyllic location and special charm. If you were to conjure up the perfect rural escape, this would be it!

FOOD AND DRINK
Home-Cooked Cuisine
After a day exploring Somerset's artisan farmer markets, arrive back at your self-catering home stay to create a hearty family feast using the finest of local fodder in the country kitchen complete with Aga. The chunky rustic kitchen table will be a hub of lively family chatter regaling the tales of the day's adventures.
In-House Cuisine
If you'd rather spend your break indulging in the little luxuries, let an in-house chef prepare a mouth-watering meal for you and your party (on prior request and subject to an additional cost). See our selection of tried and tasted recommendations here.
Eating Out
The Three Horseshoes at Batcombe (half an hour walk from Candlewick) is an idyllic spot for a pint of local Butcombe and a pork pie, or perhaps a delicious three course dinner. At The Chapel in nearby Bruton is a 17th century coaching inn with a wine shop, cafe and bar, and bakes the most delicious artisan breads and best pizzas this side of Italy! Well worth a visit.
