Discover the 'wild west' with a family getaway at The Sea Compass, a luxury self-catering farmhouse three miles from Cape Cornwall. The enviable cliff top position boasts a landscape of curious contrasts. From the comfort of the stylish interiors, prepare to be magnetized as you watch the calm turquoise waters transform into a moody seascape behind fields of golden flora, set alight by a spray of purple riverina bluebells.
This luxury self-catering farmhouse is equidistant between Cape Cornwall and Sennen Cove, voted one of Britain’s best beaches by Conde Naste Traveller. A place where dolphins were once mistaken for mermaids frequenting the shores, the area is full of myth and legend, sure to delight families wanting quality downtime in the most enchanting of locations. Within its handsome farmhouse façade, The Sea Compass is exquisitely decorated; Delabole slate floors and whitewashed walls adorned with abstract art combine traditional charm with a modern vibrancy.
Bedrooms and Bathrooms
The main house has two double bedrooms, a bunk room, dormitory with three beds, family bathroom and WC. Outside there is a shower room with WC, perfect for bathing sandy bodies after a day at the beach. The Sea Spell wing comprises a double bedroom and en suite shower room, making it a private sanctuary for couples within the group (this is also the smaller group option).
Start the day with a hearty cooked breakfast al fresco and watch the barrelling waves shimmer in the morning light. The Sennen Surf Centre has everything you need to experience riding the ocean wave yourself, so dive into the local way of life at the deep end under the watchful eye of a professional. Golf lovers will relish the challenge at nearby Cape Cornwall golf course, with undulating fairways and old mine shafts to negotiate. For the less adrenalin thirsty, peruse the art galleries at St Ives, or watch a modern take on a Shakespearian classic at The Minack open-air theatre with a picnic brimming with strawberries and champagne.
Home to the UK's only cape, The Sea Compass sits in an area rich in natural beauty, set to inspire your inner creative. Let Mother Nature guide you in a piece of poetry, or pick a quiet spot on the cliffs, erect an easel and capture the dramatic landscape in a Kurt Jackson style oil painting to take home as a fond reminder of your escape. When evening falls, let the children pick a game from the well-stocked cupboard and gather by the inglenook fire with mugs of cocoa laced with Cornish cream, for an evening of old-fashioned family fun.
There is ample parking for several cars. The property is well-equipped with washing machine, dryer, fridge, freezer and Aga for hearty country feasts! The Sea Spell wing has its own kitchenette with hob.
