Artists' Beach House is a detached clapper board beach house built in 1906. Opening onto Tankerton Beach, this stunning seaside home is spectacularly situated in a quiet corner of the fashionable fishing port of Whitstable on the North Kent coast. As well as being a self-catering holiday home, Artists' Beach House also makes a dream setting for festivities, celebrations and unique weddings.
This artists' working clapper board beach house in Whitstable is a memorable location for casual seaside self-catering weekends and unique celebrations. The house is a popular studio for photographers, writers and film-makers alike - notable guests include top journalists, renowned musicians and acclaimed actors. Inside, collected treasures, books and art works include a 'swimmers' mosaic by a local artist. Whether you're looking for the perfect alternative commute-base or inspirational romantic hideaway, this uniquely positioned home can also be taken on a day hire basis, as perfect for rustic weddings and civil partnerships as unforgettable milestone celebrations by the sea.
Bedrooms and Bathrooms
On the first floor there are two charmingly simple double rooms plus a twin bedroom; whilst another double bedroom can be found on the ground floor. All rooms share a first floor family bathroom, a downstairs Monsoon shower room with WC, and outdoor 'octopus shower with a view' for washing sandy toes after a day's rock pooling and bucket and spade adventures on the beach.
On a private sea road with a unique outlook, the house is set above the beach in extensive gardens complete with wild flower meadows, elevated pathways and a wooded copse. With an enviable veranda and decking where you can enjoy Whitstable Natives (the local oysters) and BBQ as you admire stunning sunsets across the Thames estuary, the Artist's Beach House really is an out-of-the-ordinary experience. In less clement months when the sky is grey, the sea turns metallic silver, the winds whip the waves into a frenzy, and the place is dramatic and poetic; an inspiration for artists and writers alike.
On sunny days enjoy the 180º sea views from the sofa on the wrap-around deck or enjoy Neptune's freshest harvest and shuck your own oysters- to be enjoyed with Kentish bubbles of course. Opportunity for traditional days at the seaside are in abundance here. If the wind picks up retreat inside, and cosy up in front of the fire listening to the waves lapping the shore with your nose in a good book off the shelf.
There is a washer/dryer, washing line and clothes pegs, as well as the usual kitchen appliances including espresso maker. There are plenty of blankets and wellies, as well as books and games. There is parking for three cars with additional on-road parking nearby. Please note that only one car is permitted to be parked within the property boundary.

A truly special home with a certain magical feel reminiscent of a bygone era. The stunning location right on the beach is what sets it apart from anywhere I´ve ever visited before, and coupled with the enchanting flower meadow garden, a special stay is guaranteed at this gorgeous seaside retreat.
FOOD AND DRINK
The kitchen is fully equipped and has a Smallbone classical kitchen in keeping with the original tongue-and-groove finish. A dream location for a self-catering holiday as Whitstable has a plethora of local suppliers including delicatessens, chocolatiers, gelateria and of course its famous fish market, West Whelks at the harbour and Wheelers' fish counter in town.
If you'd rather spend your self-catering break indulging in the little luxuries, let an in-house chef prepare a mouth-watering meal for you and your party (on prior request and subject to an additional cost).
Whitstable is famous for its restaurants so there's lots to choose from! These include one of The Independent's UK Top 10 Greats, Wheelers' Oyster Bar; JoJos (4/5 in The Good Food Guide); the spectacularly located Whitstable Oyster Fishery Co, The Pearsons' Arms on the beach and many more. Nearby are gastro pubs The Dove at Dargate and Michelin-starred The Sportsman at Seasalter.
