The Property
Discreet luxury river cottage in Stedham, Sussex close to Goodwood
Inside
Steeped in old English history, River Cottage, once a dairy for Stedham Hall, offers a charming riverside retreat be it a family or friends get together.
- Style: Traditional charm combines with luxurious comforts. Adorned in unique artwork and artefacts, the owners have cleverly introduced influences from their overseas travels to create a truly unique vibe. The neutral colour scheme highlights the period features in the house including original leaded windows and the beautiful ethereal church door.
- Bedrooms and Bathrooms: Three lovely bedrooms await, all situated on the ground floor. Choose from the master bedroom with king-size bed and en suite shower room, or the king-size bedded room with courtyard views, decked out in fresh whites and blues. Little ones will love the charm of the bunkbed room (not suitable for adults) with a nautical twist. The finest linens await the weary - sink under cosy duvets and enjoy complete tranquility. In addition to the master bedroom's en suite, there is also a bathroom with bath and shower over.
- For relaxation: With the courtyard facing east and the terrace facing west, the cottage is sun-filled throughout the day. Follow your nose along the riverbank and find the perfect spot for a peaceful picnic. As the evening cools, retire to the warmth of the sun room and cosy up on the sofa; or light the stove (gas-fired) in the sitting room, open a good bottle of wine and settle into holiday mode.
- For recreation: Stedham Hall offers six acres of meticulously kept gardens and an established arboretum of trees to enjoy. Stroll the country lanes over bridge and across weir - this really is country life!
- Practicalities: Microwave, dishwasher, washing machine, tumble dryer and off road parking for two cars.
Outside
A picturesque courtyard welcomes you to the cottage. Bursting with life, fragrant lavender and climbing clematis combine to offer a soft canopy of colour against the Sussex stone. A real sun trap, this area is perfect for a morning coffee with the paper. To the rear of the cottage, a spacious raised terrace balcony is ideally suited for al fresco dining overlooking the river. A carpet of bluebells and daffodils treat guests in Springtime, while the water garden can often become criss-crossed with rivers and streams in times of high water!
Food and Wine
- DIY: Taken on a self-catered basis, the cottage will make you feel right at home with the wonderfully equipped modern kitchen - the cool chic hues of the Farrow and Ball grey slate look striking against the stainless steel appliances. From Le Creuset casseroles to the Magimix, this really is a perfect culinary haven. Enhance your self-catered stay by adding bubbles and chocolates, a cream tea or fresh picnic from Unique Boutique.
- In-house cuisine: For great frozen meals there is a branch of COOK in Midhurst as well as a Thai pub in the village that offers a takeaway service. There are lots of farm shops nearby and lovely local shops (butcher, wine merchant, greengrocer etc) in Midhurst which is the closest town to the property.
- Eating out: Stedham is surrounded by an abundance of gastropubs, from the Keepers Arms in Trotton to the Three Horseshoes in Elsted, The Duke of Cumberland in Henley, The Hollist Arms in Lodsworth, The Half Way Bridge in Lodsworth and the Noah’s Ark in Lurgashall.
