Cabin Tapio | Luxury Self-Catering Woodland Cabin | Salisbury

Cabin Tapio

Fordingbridge, New Forest, Hampshire, UK

Woodland hideaway meets mid-century modern design at Cabin Tapio on the edge of Cranborne Chase AONB near Salisbury, where the gentle trickle of the River Allen and splash of jumping blue trout wash away any remnants of city living. Inside is a stark contrast to the dark, earthen exterior, where an abundance of natural light and meditative colours pinched from the nearby New Forest combine to create a calming escape in rural Hampshire.

Introduction

Surrounded by soaring trees and within easy reach of the New Forest National Park, this self-catering woodland cabin is an easy-breezy place to while away the days. Eclectic interiors celebrate all things organic, with mid-century furnishings and tones which mirror the bluest skies of summer to the cushioned moss found clambering branches in autumn. On the subject of the outdoors, the south-facing garden and hot tub will ensure there’s really no reason to venture anywhere else at all.

Inside

Bright, cheery and ever-so comfortable, Cabin Tapio is an abode where one can let all manner of tension slip away from the moment of arrival. In the heart of the cabin, a woodburner roars with comfort through the colder months; and when summer rolls around, doors fling open onto the wraparound decking, making this the perfect inside-out retreat for two. Come nightfall, slink into the blue-drenched bedroom after a soak in the en suite egg bath, owls hooting overhead a wonderful lullaby to slumber.

Outside

Noted for a history of smuggling, Fordingbridge sits pretty on the bank of Hampshire’s River Avon (one of nine with such names in the country!), where miles upon miles of trails will satisfy any keen rambler; the New Forest and Cranborne Chase also have a wealth of outdoor activities for the adrenaline seeker in the room. Next door to the cottage Damerham Fisheries offers rod hire and fishing tuition for all abilities, where one can catch supper before grilling it over Cabin Tapio’s fire pit.

From the owner

“Expect total privacy and nothing but peace and quiet in this cabin close to the New Forest National Park, and within touching distance of Cranborne Chase. A genuine escape from the rat race, it provides the perfect getaway from it all.”

From the owner

We hope you fall in love with our countryside home as much as we have.

Looking out from the back, you have private land to the right and to the end of the garden too, and with barely any traffic coming by (other than the occasional car to the fisheries next door in the early morning) you're more likely to see wild deer than another person while at Cabin Tapio!

The small section of water at the end of the garden is a tributary of the River Allen, and home to the local ducks (and a few fish!). We've found this is best enjoyed with a glass of wine in hand as the sun sets behind the trees, watching and listening to the resident wildlife.

For those who yearn for peace, we find that there is no place better than here; isolated but within arm's reach of community, quiet yet not so far from the hustle of the city that it's a long journey to get here. It is here that we find ourselves at our most relaxed, and we hope that it brings a sense of stillness to all who stay within Tapio's wooden walls.
