The warm, treacle-toned Hornton stone exterior of this classic 18th Century cottage makes a beguiling bucolic retreat, idyllically set in the picturesque village of Barford St John near the Cotswolds. Come-hither sofas, flamboyant fabrics and snug window seats provide a cosy setting from which to observe the captivating Swere valley views and sweeping meadows. The mood at this luxury self-catering bolthole is rejuvenating and inspiring; the perfect writer’s retreat in which to pen memoirs in blissful solitude.

Bedrooms and Bathrooms

From the main living area, tiptoe up three steps to the king-size master bedroom which offers a stylish window seat and luxury en suite shower room with toasty underfloor heating. Gaze into the peaceful, pastoral landscape post steamy showers before lazing atop the luxurious bedding and pondering tomorrow's adventures. The zip-and-link bedroom on the first floor nestles within characterful oak-beamed eaves and can be arranged as either a king-size double or twin bedroom. Immerse yourself at either end of the clawfoot bathtub in the family bathroom for a truly luxuriating soak.


Cotteswere sits within private, verdant gardens flaunting magnificent views of the Swere valley. Swing open the French-doors, throw down a blanket and indulge in the picturesque views out towards the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Watch horses gracefully grazing in the paddock and chink glasses as the sun sets and dips below the ha-ha.

For Relaxation

Spend days outdoors, meandering along the banks of the River Swere and wending your way through the nearby chocolate-box villages of Barford St. John and St. Michael or visit the renowned Soho Farmhouse which sits just six miles away. Return home, kick off your wellies and unwind at Cotteswere with a butter-basted chicken roasting away. For afters? Pop open a bottle of red and feel the warmth of the crackling woodburner as the day draws to an end.


Cotteswere has a shared drive and gated parking for two cars. The well-equipped kitchen includes an electric Everhot Range cooker, dishwasher, fridge freezer, double Belfast sink, microwave, Nespresso coffee machine and washing machine. There is no tumble dryer. The gardener will visit on changeover day and will not disturb your stay.
