Luxury self-catering accommodation in Feock
With its pretty postcard setting, this sleepy riverside village nestled in verdant southern Cornwall has all the elements of a perfect countryside escape.
The most stunning way to approach this beautiful backwater is by river, as Feock is planted right on the banks of a network of waterways known as the Carrick Roads. Wildlife enthusiasts come here for the peaceful creeks and inlets, and to spot birds nesting in the valleys. The King Harry ferry that takes cars and foot traffic from Feock to Philleigh has been making the trip since the late 19th century, and plenty of other boat services run between the surrounding settlements, so aqua enthusiasts can spend days here pootling about on the local waters.
Central to the village of Feock is the pretty church of St Feoca, dating back to the 12th century then rebuilt in later years; what sets it aside is the fact that its tower is several metres from the main church. As with many little Cornish inlets, several walking routes are to hand; pick the one that ambles along to the very beautiful Trelissick House and Gardens set on a neighbouring peninsula, and spend an afternoon following the garden paths, walking the dog in the woodlands, or perusing the art gallery inside the house, spotting the pieces by local artists.
