The Lizard

All Destinations UK Cornwall The Lizard

Dramatic views and plunging sunsets, long coastal rambles and cosy village pubs, The Lizard Peninsula is one of Cornwall's most rugged and unspoilt corners. Evolving from the ancient Celtic, lys ardh, or "high point", this theatrical expanse of cliff and rock is an adventure lover's paradise, and tearoom connoisseur's dream.

The Lizard Peninsula in Cornwall Ablaze with golden, sweet-smelling gorse flowers in summer and wind-lashed in winter, this southernmost crop of land, cut off from the rest of Cornwall by the Helford River is as wild and untamed as it is balmy and blue. Turquiose seas, white-sand beaches and enormous cliffs ring the peninsula, while winding country roads and cider farms fill the interior.

Kynance Cove One mile north of Lizard Point, the most southerly point of mainland Britain, lies the showstoppingly gorgeous Kynance Cove. Craggy offshore islands dominate the view out to sea, while in summer the white sand beach is peppered with resting walkers and sun worshipers. When the waters are calm, join the sealife in a gentle (albeit exhilarating) wild swim.
