All Destinations UK Devon Lustleigh

Nestling just above the East Dartmoor Woods, this treat of a Devon village has the classic thatched cottage charm of a typical English village, and throws a May Day celebration to remember: pack the Morris clogs and ribbons…

When May Day comes around, this little Devon village celebrates with vigour: a maypole goes up and the town explodes into carnival colour and dance, until the May Queen is announced. There is a granite throne especially for her crowning ceremony, in the beautiful setting of the local orchard: perfect for pretty snaps of the new queen. Lustleigh's residents are proud of their customs and celebrations, and the village has a history that goes far back in time, with evidence of Celtic civilisation dotted about the place. The pretty church attracts guests keen to catch a glimpse of the stained glass windows, and there's a pub and a village green to complete the olde world charm. For walkers, the wilds of Dartmoor National Park are right on the doorstep, but you don't have to go far to experience a bracing verdant walk, as trails and routes go right through town, tracking ramblers straight into the wilds of Devon. Just to the west, the market town of Widecombe-in-the-Moor is the place to pop by for fresh produce, and has its own annual knees-up, a Fair with tractors, trailers, games, music, and of course lashings of food and drink.
