A Winter Weekend at Libertine

Posted to Guest Bloggers by Eleanor on 14th November 2018

In the past five years I have encountered and experienced some of the most wonderful aspects of what Cornwall has to offer. I feel so privileged that Poldark has provided me with this opportunity, so to have a weekend to explore my favourite places one last time and return to such an idyllic space was a real treat; the perfect way to start my final week of filming in this awe-inspiring county.

Nestled amongst acres of woodland, but not so far from the coast sits Libertine, a wonderful former Cornish piggery which has been stylishly decorated by the owner, a former fashion buyer. She certainly has a good eye and has managed to keep the decor fanciful yet contemporary. The traditional stone and cedar-clad exteriors conceal the infusion of modern features and fluorescent flourishes inside.

We arrived to find a hamper filled with delicious treats from local shops - Rick Stein biscuits, Deli Farm Charcuterie, Cornish Olive Stall olives, Rose Gin by Tinkture (so deliciously lethal!) and the cottage was filled with beautiful wild flowers by Flourish & Finch. Very Demelza!

We began the weekend in true Cornish fashion with an exquisite breakfast consisting of scones (jam first!) and fresh eggs laid by the owner’s chickens, which equipped us with all of the energy required to set off on a day roaming the rolling green fields. When exploring the surrounding towns, we came across the most amazing antique shop in Redruth called La Belle – I get heart palpitations just thinking about it! Cornwall’s hidden gems are found in the most unlikely of places; with the quaint seaside town of Perranporth located close by, we found ourselves constantly surrounded by charm and character.

Once we returned, we kicked off our shoes and settled down by the roaring log burner under the comfy throws, which formed the most desirable partnership and resulted in us finishing the weekend catching up on our favourite box-sets undisturbed.
