People Manager

An autonomous role suiting an accomplished Human Resource practitioner who is at ease thinking and working both strategically and operationally. Responsible for originating and leading people practices and objectives providing an employee-oriented, high-performance culture, emphasising empowerment, quality, productivity and standards. 

The Role

  • Continue to evolve and execute the Unique Homestays People Strategy developing and implementing HR strategies and initiatives aligned with the overall business strategy
  • Bridging management and employee relations by addressing demands, grievances or other issues
  • Recruit, identify, evaluate, interview and onboard new hires for open positions. Maintain and develop candidate pool for all positions for succession planning. To include supporting process, procedure and documentation
  • Manage and maintain employee Total Reward offering, including employee benefits. Study and assess total rewards needs and trends; recommend best-fit total rewards options to our leadership team
  • Oversea safety programs, processes, and initiatives to comply with HSE requirements. Manage HSE programs, training and reporting on accidents
  • Oversee and manage our annual performance appraisal system, and associated benchmarking and total reward review activities
  • End to end the leadership of the L&D offering to include needs analysis, design, development, facilitation and review
  • Report to management and provide decision support through HR metrics
  • Conduct periodic employee engagement surveys. Identify and manage factors affecting employee morale and retention
  • Secure and maintain all employee records including personnel, insurance, medical, workers compensation, training, and disciplinary actions.
  • Act as a confidant, coach, mentor and advisor for all employees
  • Keep up to date with trends and new developments in people management

Experience and Skills

  • Degree qualified akin to Human Resource Management or Organisational Development
  • CIPD qualified
  • Minimum of three years’ experience as a Human Resource Manager or Senior HR role if CIPD level 7 qualified. At least five years’ experience if below CIPD level 7
  • People-oriented and results-driven
  • Demonstrable experience with Human Resources metrics
  • Knowledge of HR systems and databases
  • Ability to architect strategy along with leadership skills
  • Competence to build and effectively manage interpersonal relationships at all levels
  • In-depth knowledge of UK employment law and HR best practices
  • SME experience
  • Passion and an exhaustive knowledge of people practices; proven HR generalist skills, with an aptitude and an appetite for working on multiple projects without compromising quality and deliverables
  • Accomplished and influential communicator and presenter
  • Knowledge and experience in needs analysis, design, development, facilitation, review and analysis of L&D activities, including sales, customer service and leadership development
  • A passion for people management and a desire to lead, coach and mentor

Preferred

  • Experience in both SME and larger corporates
  • Experience working in an owner operated business
  • Hospitality experience and expertise

The Specifics

  • This role is for a maximum of 30 hours per week
  • You will have 22 days paid holiday plus bank holidays, and your birthday off*
  • Access to private medical cover*
  • Starting salary is competitive and dependent on experience
  • Hybrid working approach, however as our people person, you will spend much of your time in our office (close to Newquay, Cornwall)
