In conversation with: Ola O. Smit

This month, we're exploring Le Corbusier's idea of the home as "the treasure chest of living" – the notion that the spaces we inhabit and objects we surround ourselves with express who we are. In our latest blog, we spoke with Ola O. Smit: lifestyle photographer and Co-Founder, Creative Director and Editor-in-Chief of Table Magazine. Ola desires to be a minimalist, but is a collector. She gathers objects imbued with meaning, believes spaces hold energy, and sees the table, above all, as a place of community.

Here, we talk about interiors, instinct and what it means to build a life and a magazine around the table. If you're inspired by Ola's philosophy, below are two homes where the dining spaces sit at the heart of the story.

Windfall

Black Mountains | sleeps 2

Windfall is a home assembled with the discerning eye of a collector. A Plain English kitchen wrapped in tomato-vine green panelling evokes dreams of a Provençal hillside; a French enfilade from a flea market converses with heirloom chairs, while an antique dining table enjoys sweeping mountain views. A storied place to lay the table.

With Hungarian folk furniture passed down through generations and hand-painted earthenware ceramics lining the kitchen shelves, The Knapp holds the collected treasures of a life well travelled. The nearby artistic community of Slad and foodie haven Stroud make this the perfect Cotswolds pilgrimage for food lovers and creative collectors alike.
