Cornwall: A Year by the Sea

Last night, Unique Homestays featured in a second episode of Channel 5's Cornwall: A Year by the Sea. The programme shone a spotlight on two of our most iconic heritage stays, The Signal Station on The Lizard Peninsula and Morse in Porthcurno; both of which played an important role in Cornwall's rich history. The episode also included a special appearance from our founder Sarah, who looked at where it all began.

Built as a beacon of safety for passing boats in an area rife with shipwrecks, The Signal Station has now been transformed into a one-of-a-kind coastal hideaway. The UK's most southerly self-catering stay, it sits perched on the clifftop on The Lizard Peninsula, with a rooftop terrace designed to capitalise on its sweeping sea views.

A former WWII communications bunker, what now stands in this idyllic slice of West Cornwall near the tropical Pedn Vounder beach is a light-filled bolthole complete with designer furniture, a "gin and tonic" terrace and hot tub for sunset soaks. Remnants of the property's important history, like original concrete, remain in tact.
