Scarlet Hall | Luxury Self-Catering Manor House | Chester

Set down a sweeping drive within the grounds of a sprawling 12 acre estate, Scarlet Hall is the perfect marriage of rural meets regal. Within timber-framed wisteria-clad walls lies a wealth of history spanning farm tales, princes and Italian prisoners of war held captive in WWII. With an indoor pool, sauna and abundant gardens, this large and luxurious self-catering house in Cheshire offers the finest of English escapes.

Self-catering manor house for hire in Malpas, Cheshire

A home and farmstead since the 1640s, this Grade II listed manor house boasts open-plan and light-filled spaces in nothing but abundance. An inscription found on the inside of one of the old chimneys, “Ye Friends Meeting House,” says all you really need to know about this warm and welcoming self-catering house in the heart of the Cheshire countryside. A place where children have had many a birthday sleepover, families have celebrated and joy has been bountiful, the foundations of Scarlet Hall all but envelop one with affection on first step through the sunny French doors.

Bedrooms and Bathrooms

Spread between the main building and the coach house, Scarlet Hall can sleep up to 22 in 11 luxurious bedrooms. In the main house there are two super king-size beds, two king-size beds and two zip-and-link bedrooms. Each bedroom in the main house has an en suite shower or bathroom with underfloor heating. In the coach house, where the indoor swimming pool also resides, are three zip-and-link bedrooms, two of which are connected to an en suite Jack and Jill shower room, a king-size bedroom and one double. There is one family bath and shower room in the coach house, along with one further shower room and two more downstairs in the swimming pool complex.

Settled in the centre of 12 acres of lawn and fields, an orchard and even a meadow (perfect for sprawling between the flowers to watch clouds make shapes above), Scarlet Hall’s grounds are as plentiful in colour as they are in space. Send the children, big and small, for a kick around in the adjoining field while the wine flows on the sunlit patio. On hot summer days, grab a blanket and sweetheart by the hand and bound barefoot to the shaded orchard, where sweet nothings and giggles abound.

For Relaxation

Scarlet Hall is a home where relaxation, fun and time spent together are centre-stage. Lap the indoor heated swimming pool before breakfast, warm in the infrared sauna and challenge friends to a friendly game of snooker over a beer or two. On midsummer evenings, gather around the firepit with marshmallows under a reluctantly darkening sky and in winter, cosy down in the cinema room for family favourites, or even a marathon of home movies and nostalgia. The large open-plan kitchen and living room provide the most beautiful and informal space to make meals together, have long, late night conversations and warm toes by the fire after a long day of countryside adventures.

The kitchen includes a large Aga with electric hob, double Miele fridge-freezer with built-in ice maker and a Miele dishwasher. A washing machine and tumble dryer are also available. There is parking for ten cars at the rear and there are electric oak security gates at the entrance. Please note, when booking the smaller group option the bedrooms in the coach house will not be available to guests. Dogs to be kept in the boot room (with underfloor heating) overnight.

The house has a lovely homely feel, it´s amazingly bright and sunny for a 17th century timber framed building! Cleverly re-designed mixing open-plan layout with traditional features, it creates a feeling of space and flow. You get lovely views from all sides from sunrises to the magnificent sunsets.

Out & About

Discover places to see and things to do whilst in and around Malpas, Cheshire to truly enhance your stay come rain or shine!

On your bike At Coed Llandegla Forest, one of the UK's leading forest visitor centres, are some of the best mountain bike trails in the whole of the country. There are trails available for all abilities, from the adrenaline seekers to the sedate cyclers, as well as lessons for anyone wanting to improve their MTB skills. For those who would rather keep their feet on the ground, there are miles upon miles of waymarked walks which make for a peaceful afternoon.

Hardy hiking The Sandstone Trail, which is a 34 mile (or 55km) long pathway along a sandstone ridge which runs from Frodsham to Whitchurch, offers gorgeous hiking with opportunities to spot wildlife and wander through caves. On a clear day, there are far-reaching views to Liverpool, Snowdonia and the Cheshire Plane and many, many castles to explore whilst on route.

Visit England's most dramatic castle Beeston castle, ten miles from Scarlet Hall, sits proudly on top of a rocky crag overlooking the countryside from the Pennines to Snowdonia. This medieval castle is home to enchanting forests, events for children and a ton of history. If Beeston doesn't fill your need for British history, there are certainly no lack of castles in Cheshire; Peckforton, Cholmondeley and Chirck are all also nearby.

Visit Chester Built as a Roman fortress and housing the largest Roman amphitheatre in the UK, the walled city of Chester offers rich culture and excellent shopping in equal measure. A stroll down the Dee Promenade, next to the Dee River, is also a delightful way to while away a summer's day; hop on a boat, snack on ice cream and take in the sites of this historic northern city.

Built way back in the 1600s, the heart of this former farmhouse sits warmly in the large open-plan kitchen-diner-living room. Stuffed to the (original) rafters with character features, Aga and a large dining table to gather around, this hearty space offers a wholesome setting for home-cooked meals.

In-House Cuisine

If you´d rather spend your country house break indulging in the little luxuries, let an in-house chef provide professional catering for you and your party (on prior request and subject to additional cost).

Eating Out

For simple, but wonderful, homemade pub grub and real ales, wander two-minutes down the road to The Bull. Stylish and friendly, this village pub excels in superb Sunday roasts, but do be sure to book. Sunny day country lunches are best enjoyed at the Grosvenor Arms in Aldford, a pub-meets-restaurant surrounded by walking trails. If, however, a lively and authentic dining experience is more to your taste, Chester’s La Fattoria serves the best pasta this side of Milan.
