Sweetpea Cottage luxury baby-friendly self-catering holiday cottage nr Crantock

Sweetpea Cottage nestles in the rural hamlet of Kestle Mill, just a few miles from the wild surf and fine sands of Lusty Glaze, Porth and Crantock beach on the north Cornwall coast. Along with its elegant interiors, it's the quirky imperfections that make this luxury self-catering cottage so swoonsome. Soft textures, botanical fabrics and salvaged antiques decorate this characterful home alongside cabinets of organic curiosities such as jay birds and butterflies. Sweet by name and sweet by nature, this country chic hideaway is as perfect for romantic weekends as it is for baby's first holiday.

Bedrooms and Bathrooms

With its subtle gold and greenery theme, the bathroom sits on the ground floor of the cottage, featuring a clawfoot bath and overhead rainfall shower. Like a scene from The Princess and The Pea, the master bedroom boasts a king-size colonial bed and next door is a charming, well-equipped nursery with large cot - a cocoon hideaway in which baby can enjoy a peaceful night’s sleep beneath the origami cloud mobile above.

A Cornish take on the classic Chelsea roof garden, the walled courtyard plays host to a mix of chalky hues and soft planting - a dream arena for sunshine reclining. On those English rainy days, the sophisticated summerhouse is the perfect spot for a pot of tea with the Sunday papers. Saunter up the hill to Trerice, a romantic Elizabethan Manor House with fine interiors and enchanting gardens, and challenge your partner to a game of badminton (or 'slapcock' as the Tudors liked to call it!) on the green. For fun and Champagne on the sand, head on down to Watergate Bay for Polo on the Beach, held every May.

For Relaxation

After a day spent trekking the beaches on horseback, frolicking in the surf or rambling along the breath-taking coast path, a tranquil haven awaits on return to Sweetpea Cottage. Pull the cork on a bottle of red and cook up a hearty supper to enjoy beneath the twinkle of the chandelier. Curl up in the antique armchair by the inglenook fire and discover more about the local history through reading tales of the Cornish smugglers who once frequented the coves nearby.

There is off-road parking for one car at Sweetpea Cottage. The kitchen has a fridge, freezer, drinks cooler, double Bertazzoni Range cooker, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine and dryer. Wet coats and muddy wellies can be stored in the summerhouse.

I fell in love with the property’s wonky walls, original beams and pretty cottage windows in an instant and knew it would make the perfect first home for my small family. Now I want other new parents and couples to enjoy the quirky charm of my Cornish chocolate-box home just like we did!
