Don your Walking Boots The South West Coast Path, a paradise for walkers and nature enthusiasts, is unsurpassed in its drama and beauty and is the perfect place to see nature at its best. The Old Canal An unusual feature in Bude centre is the Old Canal, originally built between 1819 and 1826 at a length of 61km used for transporting coal and lime inland and grain and slate out until the railways took over this role. A major canal regeneration project completed in 2008 has restored many of the original features including the locks and bridges, the lower wharf and the pretty towpath which offers two miles of walking, kayaking or rowing from Bude to Helebridge with a wildlife reserve and bird watching station.
