Out & About

Discover places to see and things to do whilst in and around Bampton, Cumbria to truly enhance your stay come rain or shine!

Village Life at Bampton This sweet Cumbrian village sits in the Eastern Fells of the Lake District and offers a warm welcome to its visitors. From yoga classes to church meetings, nature walks and paper sculpture workshops, the Parish calendar is a reflection of this close-knit and creative community. Get involved and feel like one of the locals!

High Street Not your 'average' high street, Cumbria's 'High Street' is the name of the highest peak in the Eastern Fells. This mountain gets its unusual name from the Roman road that once ran across the ridge. Some of the best views in Cumbria are to be had on this walk, especially passing Small Water and Blea Water on your way. The best thing? High Street can be hiked from Aquila's front door!

My Little Pony Down at Pooley Bridge you'll find Park Foot Pony Trekking. Established over 30 years ago, this equestrian club is great for children and takes riders on a magical adventure straight onto the fells above Ullswater, avoiding any roads. Riding hats are provided along with waterproofs should they be needed (rain doesn't stop play here!).

On Yer Boat Head to the river mouth on Eusemere Pooley Bridge and hire canoes to sail across Ullswater, the nearest lake to Haweswater less than ten miles away. For the more adventurous, there are also motorboats for hire.

On the Literary Trail No visit to the Lake District is complete without a visit to the the World of Beatrix Potter Attraction complete with Peter Rabbit, Jemima Puddle-Duck, Squirrel Nutkin and all the gang. Look out for Mr McGregor! Fans of the Swallows and Amazons stories will enjoy taking a boat cruise around the places surrounding Coniston Water which Arthur Ransome used to populate the imaginary lake of his books, including Wild Cat Island.

Al Fresco Swimming Askham's two outdoor swimming pools make for a great day out for all the family. With a heated paddling pool for the young and a larger 20 metre pool for the young at heart, both are lifeguarded and surrounded by grassy lawns perfect for post-swim picnics. Also on offer is tea, coffee, sweets and ice creams - what more could children wish for?
