Higher Ashton

Nestled in the Teign Valley on the fringes of Dartmoor, Higher Ashton is a sleepy village offering the perfect base for a blissful holiday in Devon. Surrounded by rolling countryside yet within easy reach of some of the best beaches in the county, Higher Ashton is not to be overlooked when considering a break away in the South West.

Day Trips in Devon Haldon Belvedere, or Lawrence Castle as it is also known, is a unique grade-II listed triangular castle perched high on Haldon Hill and boasts panoramic views stretching across to Dartmoor, Exmoor the south Hams and the River Exe valley. Open to the public every Sunday, a day trip here provides an interesting cultural day out for all the family. The charming cathedral city of Exeter is nearby and offers excellent shopping, a great live music scene and a wonderful arts centre. South Devon’s sandy beaches are also easily accessible from Higher Ashton, as is Dartmouth; a pretty riverside town of pastel-hued cottages, charming historic streets and rural-meets-riverside scenery.

Outdoor Activities in Devon The friendly Teign Valley Golf Club is just a short distance from Higher Ashton village and offers a warm welcome to all visitors in search of a challenging yet enjoyable afternoon in the countryside. The 18 hole course with excellent greens and fairways embraces the natural features of the unique south Devon landscape; boasting ponds, streams and mature trees. For other outdoor pursuits, head to Kennick, Tottiford and Trenchford reservoirs which are each connected by a network of off-road paths calling out to be explored. Spend afternoons on the water, fly fishing or rowing on the reservoirs by hiring a boat from one of the local Devon vendors.
