Elphinstone | Luxury Self-Catering Coastal Home | Studland, Dorset

Settled into a land which inspired the Famous Five’s adventures, Elphinstone looks out across Studland Bay and the rolling hills of Dorset. Traditional Purbeck Stone blends into the coastal landscape while enormous windows allow sweeping views of the horizon. Simple yet stylish, with a nod to the seventies, this luxury self-catering home is the perfect base for a summer holiday by the sea.

Open light-filled kitchen dining, Studland, Dorset

Looking out across the curving lines of Studland Bay and with a salty breeze teasing your hair, it’s easy to let any remnants of reality wash away at Elphinstone. The beating summer sun and the call of gulls swooping overhead call to mind a simpler time of running barefoot across the sand and the sweet taste of soft-whip ice creams. Inside, pure, neutral tones don’t dare pull eyes from the changeable skies outside, yet assured comfort and confident class ensure deep relaxation whatever the weather.

Bedrooms and Bathrooms

The soothing master king-size suite, with en suite bath and separate shower, will calm the busy mind into a restful slumber after a day rambling around Old Harry Rocks. There are three further bedrooms, all super king-size zip-and-links, which share the family bathroom with bath and shower along with the separate shower room on the top floor. There is a separate WC on the ground floor.

Morning coffee has never tasted as good as when it’s sipped from Elphinstone’s kitchen balcony. After a spread of omelettes filled with herbs and vegetables from the kitchen garden, grab a book and laze with the butterflies in the shade of the orchard. Come evening, knead homemade sourdough pizza bases and set to bake in the al fresco pizza oven, before gathering around the fire pit as the sun melts into the sea.

For Relaxation

It was Enid Blyton who once wrote, “I don’t know why, but the meals we eat on picnics always taste so much nicer than the ones we have indoors,” and what finer way to spend a day in southern England than sprawled under a faraway tree with not a care in the world? Armed with a hamper of pastries and sweet treats from Chococo's, along with a chilled bottle of fizz, pack backpacks and blankets and wander the hills in search of a quiet place somewhere. Once home, settle with goblets of hot chocolates piled with marshmallows for a movie marathon in the cinema room.

The well-equipped kitchen includes an electric hob, double oven, dishwasher, fridge-freezer and bread machine. There is private parking for up to five cars. An additional bunk room is available for £100 per bed for up to three children. There are several walls which drop off in the garden; please supervise small children.
