The Palladian | Luxury Self-Catering Manor | Ampney Crucis, Cotswolds

Just a hop, skip and a jump from pretty Cirencester, The Palladian stands proud amidst a bounty of colourful wildflower meadows and swathes of woodland in the Gloucester countryside. Spend mornings floating in the outdoor swimming pool, days lounging in the formal gardens and nights soaking in the indoor hot tub before drying off by an open fire. This luxury country home in the Cotswolds really has it all.

A luxury manor house in the Cotswolds

Georgian in style and grand in nature, this luxury self-catering Cotswold manor offers a countryside escape perfect for multi-generational groups. Inspired by modern country homes and complemented with an eclectic mix of both contemporary and antique furnishings, The Palladian is rich in grace and comfort. Outside, sweet blossoms colour early spring with sugared pinks, a secret treehouse encourages romantic hideouts at dusk and a quiet spot by the pond offers opportunity to lazily watch the stars move across the sky under the warmth of thick blankets.

Bedrooms and Bathrooms

The Palladian features six bedrooms accommodating six adults and six children. The master bedroom flaunts an emperor sleigh bed and en suite with standalone bath tub and walk-through shower. There are two further king-size bedrooms, one looking out across the paddock and the other over the woodland and meadow. For little ones, there is one twin bedroom and two bunk rooms filled with toys. There is one family bathroom and shower room in the left wing and two separate WCs on the ground floor.

With 15 acres of grounds to explore, sunbathe in and enjoy, there really is no need to wander too far. Burn off some energy on the tennis court, challenge the family to five-a-side football on the pitch or watch little ones bounce on the large trampoline while sipping a large glass of crisp white wine. As night draws in, dine beneath the climbing greenery and glowing lights of the pergola, letting all manner of time slip away with the setting sun.

For Relaxation

Once described by William Morris as “the most beautiful village in England,” Bibury is filled to the brim with Cotswold charm. Amble by Arlington Row, stop in The Catherine Wheel’s sunny beer garden or roam the rolling hills and rivers surrounding this quintessential village. For the antique collectors among you, Cirencester is bursting with sparkling caves of wonder just waiting to be explored. Come evening, light up the barbecue and enjoy an al fresco supper of local cheese and meat picked up from Cirencester Farmer’s Market.

There is ample parking for up to 20 cars between the driveway and stable yard. The bright kitchen includes an electric Aga, fan oven, hobs, two dishwashers and large fridge-freezer. Due to the pond, some steep drops and treehouse in the gardens, children should be supervised at all times.

Our Take

Property Owner Mark says

The Palladian’s garden is a year-round treasure trove and is the true crowning glory of our much-loved home. Starting the year with snowdrops and closing with cyclamen (with crocuses, blossoms, tulips and everything else in between!) we just love to roam the trees and meadows all through the year.

Out & About

Discover places to see and things to do whilst in and around Ampney Crucis, Gloucestershire to truly enhance your stay come rain or shine!

History and Architecture Guests will be spoiled for choice with a wealth of stunning National Trust properties and ornamental gardens nearby; Highgrove Royal Gardens and Westonbirt Arboretum being the closest. Highgrove was created with the imagination of Prince Charles, interlinking a series of organic gardens which reflect his passion for sustainability, while just a short walk away from The Palladian is a 900 year-old Norman church, surrounded by the remains of medieval murals which are amongst the oldest in England.

Walking and Cycling There is certainly no shortage of excellent footpaths, bridleways or country lanes in the area. The Wychwood Way, an historic 37-mile route from Woodstock to nearby Wychwood, runs through an ancient royal forest. It can be broken down into manageable routes as the fancy takes you!

Film Locations Movie buffs will be in their element on a cultural break in the Cotswolds. Take a tour and spot the film locations for box office favourites; from the Die Another Day car chase which took place at Bourton-on-the-Water, to scenes of Pride and Prejudice shot at Luckington Court and those of Vanity Fair filmed at multiple locations nearby.

Burford The elegant and historic coaching town of Burford is just 30 minutes from The Palladian. Often referred to as the Gateway to the Cotswolds, Burford has a delightfully picturesque and broad high street, which descends down a steep hill to a medieval packhorse bridge over the River Windrush. Meander along Burford’s high street, explore its alleyways and take in its famous antiques shops, gift shops, art galleries, teashops, restaurants and its beautiful medieval parish church.

After a slow Saturday morning wandering the busy rows of Cirencester Farmers' Market, stock up on local deli meat, cheeses and organic vegetables and return to The Palladian's light-flooded kitchen to rustle up a picnic feast that will satisfy the whole family. By night, light up the barbecue and let mouths water as minted lamb chops from Jesse Smith Butchers smoulder over the coals.

In-House Cuisine

If you'd rather spend your luxury self-catering break indulging in the little luxuries, let an in-house chef prepare a mouth-watering meal for your party (on prior request and subject to an additional cost).

Eating Out

Just three miles away in Barnsley is The Village Pub, a delightful and cosy gastropub with a little bit of edible oomph added in for good measure, where relaxed lunches in the sun and casual (but exceptional) dinners can be enjoyed. For a finer affair, it has to be Barnsley House, where beautiful gardens are the setting for an al fresco dining experience like no other. Be sure to book!
