Cheltenham Nestled on the western edge of the Cotswolds, Cheltenham is an 18th century spa resort that's lost none of its charm. This culture-rich city hosts a range of fantastic festivals, from jazz to science, literature, food and of course the famous equestrian events at Badminton and Gatcombe.

Wandering Wild There is no shortage of excellent footpaths, bridleways or country lanes in the area and there is no better way to embrace a country escape than by setting out on foot with a picnic, so don't forget your walking boots! The best walks from the doorstep include Warden's Way, Windrush Way and Cotswold Way. Tie a country walk in with a country pub, and you have the makings of one fine afternoon.

Villages Lost in Time The picturesque Cotswolds villages such as nearby Burford, Stow-On-The-Wold, Upper Slaughter and Bourton-on-the-Water are delightful to explore, from their cosy tea rooms to unusual boutiques and beautiful parks.

Have a Flutter Horseracing fans will know that the famous Cheltenham Gold Cup is held at the nearby racecourse, but there are plenty of other race meetings throughout the season too. Bored of watching from the sideline? Head to Washpool Equestrian Centre and join in on hacks over beautiful Cotswolds countryside under the expert guidance of respected horse woman Jill Carenza.

History and Architecture Guests will be spoiled for choice with a wealth of stunning National Trust properties and ornamental gardens nearby; Snowshill Manor, Hidcote Manor, Batsford Arboretum and Broadway Tower are to name a few. Set against the dramatic backdrop of the Cotswolds in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Sudeley Castle and Gardens are a must - the only private castle in England to have a queen buried within its grounds (Katherine Parr, the last of Henry VIII’s six wives)!

Oxford and Stratford-upon-Avon The City of Dreaming Spires is famous the world over for its University and place in history. Perhaps add a spot of punting or a canal trip, followed up with a pint in The Eagle and Child (favoured by Tolkein and CS Lewis) for a memorable visit. Visit the birthplace of Shakespeare with a trip to Stratford-upon-Avon, a pretty market town with more than 800 years of history to discover.
