Take an authentic 1940s dairy barn, re-imagine it with a flawless design using natural materials and milky hues to create a contemporary luxury self-catering abode. The key is in the detail: hot tub, deluxe cinema room, Finnish barbeque hut and fire pit, all set within 40 acres of pastoral paradise at the foot of The Chilterns in Oxfordshire… Welcome to The Creamery.

Luxury self-catering home in The Chilterns, Oxfordshire

Whether yearning for a city escape or a luxury bolthole for your boaty break near Henley-on-Thames, The Creamery in Oxfordshire satisfies all. Just an hour from London yet far from the hubbub of the city, this hidden gem lies between some of England's prettiest villages. A neutral colour palate of chalky creams and greys create a clean, calming backdrop for blissful self-catering holidays in the country. Cosy furnishings combined with carefully chosen mod cons ensure that The Creamery will delight until the cows come home!

Bedrooms and Bathrooms

The sumptuous super king-sized bedrooms boast zip-and-link beds which mean they can each be arranged as twin bedroom if preferred, offering more flexibility for your luxury tailor-made holiday. Both en suite bathrooms feature his and hers sinks, a bath tub and separate shower. Once a greenhouse, the unique glass-roofed bathroom suite allows couples to gaze up at the inky night’s sky and watch shooting stars from the comfort of the bubble bath and dreamy marshmallow bed!

England's smallest market town, ancient Watlington nestles between The Chiltern Hills and The Vale of Oxford in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The town’s mellow ambiance and close proximity to London make it a popular choice for country escapades. Walk in the footprints of some of England’s most famous poets who were inspired by the landscape, ramble through pretty hamlets and stop off for lunch at one of the old coaching inns. For decades, the velvety chalk downland peppered with flint cottages has provided a picturesque backdrop for many television shoot locations, including dramas Midsummer Murders and The Vicar of Dibley.

For Relaxation

Slip into the bubbling hot tub and feel the fresh country air tickle your face as you sip a glass of fizz. Admire the original art sculptures in the garden and views to the Chiltern Hills and rolling Oxfordshire countryside all around. As the evening draws in, head to the Finnish barbecue hut armed with baskets of local produce, rounded off with toasted marshmallows and bedtime tales by the fire pit. Curl up in the state-of-the-art cinema room with a family favourite. Why not choose Chitty Chitty Bang Bang? Look out for Caractacus Potts' windmill and that magical scene where the car takes flight, filmed a short walk away.

There is parking for four cars. The modern country kitchen includes an electric cooker with induction hob, a microwave, dishwasher, washing machine and dryer.

Our Take

Property Owner Jane says

We have lovingly converted this property from a humble cow shed to a stunning, contemporary home at the foot of the Chiltern Hills. The views from every room are stunning, with the sun and natural light flooding in all around. End the day with a soak in the greenhouse bathroom, gazing at the stars.

The open plan kitchen diner is contemporary yet cosy, offering a stylish space for hearty winter meals. In summer there's nothing quite like al fresco countryside dining. A number of local speciality shops provide cheeses, wine and cakes perfect for a picnic on the summit of Watlington Hill, a well-known vantage point for birdwatching, especially for the reintroduced Red Kites.

In-House Cuisine

If you'd rather spend your self-catering break indulging in the little luxuries, let an in-house chef prepare a mouth-watering meal for you and your party (on prior request and subject to an additional cost).

Eating Out

Don your wax jacket and take a country stroll to The Fat Fox Inn or The Chequers in the heart of Watlington on a road suitably named 'Love Lane' - opt for their sunny beer gardens or cosy-up by the inglenook fireplaces. For a special occasion venue with a twist of imaginative genius, Raymond Blanc's world-famous restaurant Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons comes highly recommended.
