Viola | Luxury Self-Catering Home with Pool | Butleigh, Glastonbury

Between the rolling hills of bucolic Somerset, just a stone’s throw from Glastonbury, lies a luxury home of two wildly different personalities. A Jekyll and Hyde of elegance and chinking chandeliers on one side, and a dark, heart-racing cave where escapism is the name of the game on the other, Viola is a self-catering escape which will satisfy all. With a heated outdoor swimming pool, two Formula 1 racing simulators, laser tag, a lake, tennis court and hot tub; this home is hedonism embodied.

Large luxury self-catering home in Butleigh near Glastonbury

After years of sailing the seven seas on a catamaran with the family in tow, Viola was the only welcome back to dry land that could possibly satisfy that roaming itch. Settled within 11 acres of pastoral paradise in the quiet village of Butleigh near Glastonbury, life at this self-catering home was built to be shared. While the self-proclaimed “man cave” offers opportunity en masse for thrilling flight and racing simulations, it’s time peacefully spent in the gardens which one remembers forever; a sunrise dip in the outdoor heated swimming pool, a glass of red wine as the moon climbs out of the Mendip Hills, and a quiet supper for two in the lake house, coy carp gently swishing beneath the surface.

Bedrooms and Bathrooms

With six sumptuous bedrooms in which to relax after a day working up the BPM on the tennis court, sweet dreams are guaranteed at Viola. On the ground floor is one super king-size bedroom with views over the garden and has use of the downstairs shower room. Up the stairs to the rest of the bedrooms, guests will find two super king-size bedrooms with en suite shower rooms, one double with roll top bath and one king-size which shares the family bathroom with bath and handheld shower. The master suite also resides on the first floor and flaunts an emperor bed and en suite bathroom with separate shower and steam room. There is one further WC on the ground floor.

With the Mendip Hills undulating as far as the eye can see, there isn’t a single spot within Viola’s grounds which isn’t surrounded in bliss. Start the day with a sunrise swim in the heated swimming pool, steam rising into the morning air, before enjoying an al fresco breakfast in the outdoor dining area. Come afternoon, wander the three-hole golf course, row across the lake or challenge the family to a friendly badminton tournament. When the light begins to fade, grab the laser guns and tear around the fields together before sinking into the spa Jacuzzi with a chilled bottle of fizz.

For Relaxation

Where to begin? This country home will entertain all, and while both the big and little children in the group will race to get to the F1 and aeroplane simulators first, others can quietly while away the day by the lake house, watching the moorhens and ducks go about their daily business on the water. For others, relaxation simply looks like an ice-cold mojito with toes dipped in the pool and, for those who feel most at home in the kitchen, the garden has herbs and vegetables aplenty to cook up a storm for the whole family. Swing in the hammock as clouds roll across the sky, float the boat around the lake or meditate on the yoga deck to the birdsong overhead.

There is private parking for all guests on site. The well-equipped kitchen includes an Aga with electric oven, fridge-freezer, wine fridge and dishwasher. Life jackets are provided and children are to be supervised in the garden at all times. Dogs are permitted in the downstairs of the house only. External areas of the house are covered by CCTV.

Our Take

Property Owner William says

There are so many wonderful things about Viola, but our favourite has to be enjoying that first morning cup of coffee on the grass around the lake house, wrapped in blankets and feet swinging over the side, as the world brightens and ducks float between the lilies, chattering as they go.
