Luxury self-catering cabin in Wales

If you’ve forever been plotting your grand escape to the hinterland, your quest can stop here. Set within a fairy-tale wooded copse, this luxury self-catering cabin flaunts views over the majestic peaks of Snowdonia and the promise of endless adventures. Hinterland Cabin is the picture of an authentic Welsh hideaway, made from local slate and railway sleepers salvaged from the Conwy valley line. With little extras hidden in every cupboard, there's little wonder The Independent dubbed it ‘possibly the best log cabin in Britain’.

Bedrooms and Bathrooms

The king-size bed calls you to dive into its cosy Hungarian goose down duvet and Egyptian cotton linens. Traditional wooden shutters keep you firmly out of the elements, and there's a curtain that can be drawn to close off the bedroom from the main open-plan living area. The luxury shower room features a walk-in shower, stone sink and underfloor heating to keep toes toasty after a day of crunching up snow-capped hills.

Heated to a 'just perfect' 37 degrees, the outdoor hot tub allows guests to enjoy the fresh air in all seasons. Whether a balmy midsummer's evening or crisp winter morning surrounded by snowfall, a glass of bubbly will be the perfect accompaniment to the lush views across Conwy's forested valley. Just 200 yards from the cabin is the edge of the Bodnant Estate, home to Llyn Syberi, a tranquil coarse fishing lake. Wile away a day on the water's edge with a flask of tea and keep watch for trout, bream and the elusive Welsh Syberi Eels!

For Relaxation

Snowdonia should be high on the bucket list of any gallant traveller. Ride the perfect wave in a 300 metre lagoon at Surf Snowdonia, dip your toes in the sea at Conwy Morfa beach nearby, or hop aboard Snowdon Mountain Railway to experience a psychedelic kaleidoscope of scenery. Back at the cabin, sink into the hot tub or batten down the hatches to enjoy Scrabble marathons and the heavenly scent of homemade cocoa bubbling away on the hob. There's popcorn on stand-by for film nights, a jar of marshmallows for hot chocolates and sets of fluffy bathrobes and slippers for sauntering between the cabin, hot tub and sauna.

The Practicalities

There is private parking for two cars and access is via a rough country road (not suitable for sports cars). The cabin has an open plan design, featuring an electric oven, microwave, dishwasher and washing machine.

Snowdon Mountain Railway For those who'd rather sit back and relax than hike to the summit, then the Snowdon Mountain Railway is a must. Taking visitors up to the 'rooftop of Wales' on 4.7-miles of single track, the train is one of the most unique journeys and rewards visitors with a kaleidoscope of stunning scenery. Remember to check the website for journey details, as it varies depending on the season.

Go Surfing Yes you read it right, surfing in Snowdonia is a possibility thanks to the artificial wave pool at Dolgarrog. Set deep with the Conwy Valley, this is the world’s first commercial artificial surfing lake. In addition to the 300 metre surf lagoon, there’s also an inflatable obstacle course climaxing in a crash pad, catapulting participants high into the air before an epic splash landing!

For Fisher-Folk Just 200 yards away from the cabin is the Bodnant Estate, home to Llyn Syberi, a tranquil coarse fishing lake. Containing a variety of fish (including trout, crucian carp and bream) day permits can be purchased from as little as £6 per day. Be sure to bring your lucky rod with you for the chance to snare the legendary Syberi Eels. Up to 25 years old, these elusive fish are an angler's dream!

Visit the Beach and Explore the Coast Head to nearby Conwy Morfa beach, a large sandy bay which at low tide, forms part of the extensive banks of Conwy Bay. Visit the seaside resort of Llandudno and stroll down the 19th Century pier, ice cream in hand or the island of Anglesey makes for a wonderful day trip, where visitors can explore the medieval towns, castles and the rugged Welsh coastline.

The Bodnant Welsh Food Centre will be your local farm shop, offering a variety of fresh produce and excellent wines. Make sure you say hello to Marilyn the boss when you head to TJ Parry Jones and Daughters, a wonderful family-run butchers and bakers. With so much great local produce on offer, self-catering is the only way to holiday in Wales.

In-House Cuisine

If you'd rather spend your luxury self-catering stay indulging in the little luxuries, let a private chef prepare meals for you and your partner (on prior request and subject to an additional cost).

Eating Out

Owner, Jane, highly recommends Enochs Fish and Chips - watch out for their popular lobster nights! For French cuisine head to Paysanne, for Indian it's the Asha Balti and for traditional Welsh food you can take your pick. The closest pub is four miles away, whilst The Castle's exclusive new restaurant "Shakespeare’s" offers something a little more superior for those special occasions (post-proposal dinner perhaps?)!
