Seren Mor | Luxury Self-Catering | Newport Estuary, Pembrokeshire

Nestled on the green cliffs of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park and winner of the RIBA Welsh Architect Award, this luxury self-catering house on the westernmost shore of Wales celebrates the finer things in life with poise and grace. Huge horizon vistas through floor-to-ceiling windows and a wild garden which meets the Newport Estuary; Seren Mor seamlessly blends perfect, modern architecture with the organic world.

Large self-catering coastal house in Pembrokeshire, Wales

Described as “the most beautiful location for a house anywhere in the UK” by Sir Colin Stansfield-Smith, one of the UK’s leading architects of the 70s and 80s, Seren Mor stands proud above the water of Newport’s picturesque estuary. Completely sustainable and in prime position for watching the sun melt into the sea, this self-catering house has the most enviable of locations in all of Wales. Throw open enormous windows and let the sea breeze tease through hair on the timber-decked balcony, tear around the gardens in a family game of hide and seek, or simply gaze across the water to the chapel where the owners of this most marvellous creation were married.

Bedrooms and Bathrooms

Overlooking the estuary and with all but one bedroom on the lower floor, this upside down seaside house has five bright and modern bedrooms. The super king-size master bedroom, which resides downstairs, has a private balcony and en suite bathroom with sunset views and a separate dressing room. There are a further three bedrooms on this floor, one twin and one super king which share the family bathroom, and one super king with en suite shower room. Upstairs on the first floor is one super king-size bedroom, with en suite bath and shower. There is also a WC on the first floor.

With a large terraced garden overflowing with wildflowers and butterflies, hidden clearings to discover and secret pathways leading to the beach, it’s no surprise that Seren Mor’s grounds are as gorgeous and as cared for as its interiors. Watch the world slowly wake from slumber with a morning coffee on the balcony, find a quiet spot with a view surrounded by vibrant blossoms and spend summer nights feasting with a unique stained glass backdrop in the secluded garden dining area.

For Relaxation

There are many different variations on what relaxation means; to some it’s climbing mountains, to others it’s jumping off cliffs, to many it means lazing around with no agenda but a good book and a big glass of Pinot. At Seren Mor, every take on down time is catered for. Walk the three miles to the top of craggy Carningli Mountain, take kayaks and surfboards from the garden store for an adventure on the water or visit Skomer Island to get up close and personal with seals and puffins. One of the finer ways to spend any day here, come rain or shine (or fog or storm, for that matter), is to curl up on a sofa in the open-plan living room, and watch the weather shift across the sky.

The large, open-plan, bespoke kitchen is fully equipped with a Siemens oven, large Sub-Zero fridge-freezer, two dishwashers and a large walk-in larder. A washing machine, tumble dryer and ironing board are all available in the downstairs utility room and there is ample parking for five cars.

Our Take

Property Owner Richard says

The views from the house are breathtaking. Enjoy observing the weather, animals, boats and people walking their dogs or playing on the beach. At the bottom of the garden is 186 miles of the Pembrokeshire coastal path and the balcony overlooks the 13th tee of Newport Links Golf Club.

Out & About

Discover places to see and things to do whilst in and around Newport, Wales to truly enhance your stay come rain or shine!

Great things are done when men and mountains meet Throw on those hiking boots, fill a bag full of snacks and head out the front door to the summit of Carningli Mountain, which can be seen from Seren Mor. Although a steep climb, the hike to the summit includes remains of ancient settlements, an ancient wishing well and out-of-this-world views across the coast and inland Pembrokeshire.

Take a sea safari There are a wealth of boat trips and wildlife spotting excursions available to anyone staying within the Newport area. Dolphins, whales, puffins and seals have all made their homes within the area and aren't shy to show their faces to anyone looking for them. Sail with a guide to either Skomer or Ramsey Island and be prepared for plenty of ooos and ahhhs.

Ball play Not only is Seren Mor located right on the edge of Newport Links Golf Course, but there are also tennis courts just a 15 minute walk away, meaning that staying active and healthy is easy. Take the family in tow for a game of doubles or take the time to breath in the fresh Welsh air with a solo round of golf on this gorgeous coastal course.

Get the adrenaline pumping Wales is a popular destination for anyone looking to try their hand at extreme sports, and Pembrokeshire is no exception! Join Celtic Quest Coasteering in Abereiddy Bay for an afternoon jumping off cliffs, exploring caves and getting to know the coastline from a different perspective. Alternatively, the Blue Lagoon, also in Abereiddy, has been the location for the Red Bull diving competition; plunge from the cliffs yourself, or watch brave souls leap into the turquoise water from the floating calm of a kayak or canoe.

Nearest beach The Bennett, less than a mile from Seren Mor, is best for sheltered barbecues in the sand dunes or leisurely estuary swims. For windsurfing, surfing and golden sands, Newgale Beach is 23 miles away, and Abereiddy just 22.

Newport is filled to the rafters with delis, bakeries and farm shops supplying local and home made goodies. For the freshest catch of the day to put on the barbecue, Newport Fish is a must-stop on any grocery shop. For almost anything else from cheese, to ale, to organic fruit and veggies grown up the road, head to Wholefoods of Newport and fill Seren Mor's cupboards with sustainable, delicious fare.

In-House Cuisine

If you'd rather spend your luxury self-catering break indulging in the little luxuries, let an in-house chef prepare a mouth-watering meal for your party (on prior request).

Eating Out

The Old Sailer offers a welcome pit stop at the end of a two to three hour walk across the Pembrokeshire coast from Seren Mor. If a coastal hike isn't on your agenda, this pub is more than worth the 15-minute drive for to-die-for seafood and out of this world views. Fancy something more refined? Llys Meddyg has a fine menu curated from the best ingredients sourced from the land in which it is nestled.
