Iraia | Luxury Self-Catering Beach House | Seaton, Cornwall

Iraia

Seaton Beach, Looe, Cornwall, UK

Seemingly floating above the sea on Seaton Beach, Iraia and its cool, silvery accoya exterior blends into the landscape as though it was born of the smoky shingles themselves. An eco-friendly, architect-designed home with a sleek, modern style designed to make the most of those sublime south coast sunsets; this luxury self-catering home is the Great British seaside holiday, on an entirely new level.

Introduction

A private decking above Seaton beach, a hot tub with views of the horizon and an outdoor swimming pool mirroring the radiant turquoise of the sea below; a luxury self-catering escape to the coast will never be the same again after a visit to Iraia. Through the open plan living area, a palette of warm greys and demerara sugar echoes the shifting shades of the beach and weather, while floor to ceiling windows at every turn ensure there’s no forgetting the power of the elements seething outside.

Inside

An easy, Nordic charm weaves through this minimalistic house by the sea, bringing hygge by the bucketload with sink-into sofas, warming organic tones and a roaring living room fire. To the east of the house, a combination of brilliant whites and serene blues blend with the summer surf through the enormous windows from the bedrooms, giving guests the feeling of soaring right above the ocean from the moment they stretch out from beneath the soft bedsheets.

Outside

Designed with sea views, bright sunrises and stargazing in mind, Iraia flaunts two levels of wraparound decking above the beach, which are best enjoyed with legs dangled in the pool and an ice cold Plymouth gin in hand. On long summer days, descend the private staircase to the beach for a family sandcastle competition, before returning to your personal hot tub on Cornwall’s forgotten corner, for a night of sipping cocktails under a rubicund moon.

From the owner

“We love to congregate together on the deck and stare at the incredible views both night and day. From here it often feels as though you are floating above the sea, and whether there´s a storm rushing across the horizon or a sunset painting the sky, this little slice of coastal heaven is nothing but a dream come true.”

From the owner

Iraia is a joy no matter what time of year we visit. From days spent cosied up inside beside the burning fire listening to the rain hammer at the windows, to mid-summer baking by the pool, watching beach life unfold below, time spent here is easy.

A particular favourite for our family is bundling up on the bean bags with a pile of blankets at night to watch the stars; we've seen some amazing meteor showers in our few years here. We also love to gather around the fire pit, toasting marshmallows and telling stories as the sun sets into the sea.

There is little better than this quiet stretch of Cornwall, which seems to have been forgotten in time, and is especially forgotten by the county's throngs of tourists. You can walk and walk and walk along the South West Coast Path to Whitsand Bay and the Rame Peninsula, dropping down onto secret beaches for secluded dips along the way.

We hope you enjoy our slice of paradise as much as we do and invite you to make yourselves at home during your stay at Iraia.
