The Beach Hut | Luxury Self-Catering | Millook, North Cornwall

The Beach Hut

Millook, Widemouth Bay, Cornwall, UK

Rediscover the simple life at this iconic beach shack in Millook on the north coast of Cornwall. A genteel 1920s tearoom turned self-catering retreat, The Beach Hut has hosted an array of guests over the years; from soul-searching solo travellers and surfers to the likes of the rich and famous. Occupying an enviable nook on its own pebble beach, The Beach Hut is the ultimate secluded seaside hideaway. All yours.

Combining stripped wooden floors with white-washed walls, dusted moss clapboard exteriors and an indulgent rustic charm, The Beach Hut is the epitome of seaside chic. This unique self-catering cottage, popular with Hollywood stars in search of peace and quiet, is the perfect place to both relax and reconnect with the important things in life. Wake up to the roaring waves lapping the pebble beach and fall asleep under the darkest, twinkliest sky you might ever see.

The open-plan studio living space flaunts a cloud-soft super king-size bed adorned with thick blankets and the finest of linens. There are fairy lights and a log burner for added evening cosiness, and locally roasted coffee for slow mornings. The small separate wet room is perfect for washing off sandy bodies after a day on the beach, before the deck awaits a romantic evening spent watching the sun set behind the zig-zag cliff formations.

Perched on a grassy knoll right on the beachfront, The Beach Hut is set in the small valley of Millook between the popular harbour towns of Bude and Boscastle. This secret surf spot (when the conditions are just right) is one of the finest left-hand point breaks in Europe; sit on the veranda and watch the surfers ride the Atlantic waves with their feline dexterity. If you can bear to leave, day trip to bright and breezy Bude, or walk the length of Widemouth beach three miles up and tuck into fish and chips on the sand.

From the owner

“The Beach Hut is set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the perfect location for truly getting away from it all. The peace and seclusion on offer at our simple Cornish beach hut is such a rare find in these modern times - a true secret hideaway perfect for those who long for romance.”

From the owner

Built in 1929 as a tearoom for travellers walking down into the valley of Millook, The Beach Hut is probably one of the most outstanding examples of a 20th century seaside beach hut in Cornwall. Enjoying pride of place, it is set in the middle of a 52-acre site comprising mainly of beaches, cliffs and pasture in a Site of Special Scientific Interest.

We have completely restored the cottage in a simple and sympathetic way; insulating it from the elements and protecting it against the frequent violent storms. Offering a comfortable lifestyle in a spectacular location with uninterrupted views of the Cornish coast, here you can be completely dominated by nature.

We both worked in the film and advertising industry, so over the past few years, we have occasionally let the property be used as a location for TV commercials, films and photographic shoots, attracting some of the best-known people in the industry. It also has been home to the UK and European surf champions!

Guest Testimonials

We were looking for an intimate, small but luxurious accommodation and The Beach Hut fit that perfectly and exceeded all of our expectations. Everything about the property is just outstanding, and has everything we could have needed and more! We have already recommended The Beach Hut to others and I think my father in law has already booked a stay with you because of this! We will certainly try to come back!

Peaceful, secluded and cosy - just what the doctor ordered! My husband enjoyed walking the coastal paths with our dog while I enjoyed the sea from the deck, we hope to return one day soon!

Wow what a magical place this is! The perfect getaway, paradise itself! We´ve loved every minute of our stay. Just what we needed for our honeymoon, to relax and unwind.

It was perfect! We loved it so much and wouldn´t change a thing! We will certainly book again for next year or something similar although I don´t think this venue could be beaten! We loved it!

It was amazing, the impact of opening the shutters on the window is something that we will never forget. The owner was lovely too! This was the nicest place that we have ever stayed. Were delighted that we could also accommodate our two dogs.

Wow, a very special place! We LOVED it. We celebrated our anniversary and it couldn´t have been more special. If all your properties are of this standard then you and your clients have got it just right. Thank you and the team. Hope to book something special again very soon!

Thank you for such a warm welcome. You have such a magical place, its done us and our dogs the world of good. Listening to the sea has been relaxing. Lovely walks for us and the dogs. thank you for the perfect break!

Wow! We have loved every second of our stay here! From watching our German pointers Mabel and Zizan exploring the rock pools and the beach, to sitting on the decking wrapped up in blankets and waking up to the sound of the waves. It has been an amazing week and we really do not want to go home. A big thank you to the housekeeper for making everything so beautiful and cosy for such a warm welcome!

Walking up the path to The Beach Hut illuminated underneath a starry sky felt like walking onto a film set; it looked simply magical. Toasty and warm inside with the most comfortable bed, we had a fantastic weekend despite less than ideal weather. Such an incredible location and bursting with personality, we´d recommend this property in a heartbeat.

We always liked the look of The Beach Hut on your website, and as regular clients of Unique Homestays we wanted to book somewhere special for just the two of us for our tenth wedding anniversary. We had an absolutely fabulous time which will be very memorable. The Beach Hut was just stunning and the option not to leave would have been most welcome!

It was perfect. Michelle gave us such a warm welcome and had left the place immaculate. It was clear from the guest book that people had stayed there with dogs, but there was no sign that a dog had ever been there. It was so clean and fresh. For such a tiny little house it was so well equipped. The kitchen was perfect, the logs for the wood burner, the welcome hampers, the fridge with eggs and bread and milk... It was just wonderful.

We wanted something really special for our honeymoon that met our specific needs. Firstly, allows dogs, secondly, an amazing location, thirdly, an amazing setting, The Beach Hut met all of them and more. It was perfect.

Amazing property, in particular the position. The quality of the fittings was way above what we would normally expect for a rental property. Service from UHS was excellent as is website and information and handover from key holder.

The Beach Hut is in such a beautiful location, and so tastefully decorated that you couldnt help but enjoy your stay, however I wont be recommending it to our friends as we want to keep this little gem to ourselves!

The property was just perfect for the number of occupant plus our dog. Lovely location, really relaxing would go there again.´´The property was everything that was promised and the location was beautiful.

The property was situated in an idyllic position, surrounded by natural beauty. We sat on the veranda every morning on the rocking chairs while drinking tea and watching our weimeraners explore the beach. We enjoyed watching the seal in the bay each day, and the surfers who came to catch the waves, on our last day, in lovely sunshine and clear skies! Going to sleep and waking to the sound of waves crashing on the shore was amazing!

It really did live up to its reputation as a unique property in a unique location and we loved it. Id also like to say that our hampers (welcome hamper and the seasalt) were gorgeous. Franck from Franckly Delicious also cooked us a meal in the Hut and I would recommend that to anyone staying in UHS properties

Beautiful property and location. Something special to be treasured. Make sure it stays perfect and up to scratch so that everyone has the same amazing experience - small slips in upkeep can make a huge difference so keep up the great work!

We believe this was one of our best holiday breaks ever and the location was stunning, Michele the house keeper was excellent and was very helpful and accomodating re deliveries we had arranged prior to arrival.

We had the honeymoon of a lifetime! It was truly magical and we are full of gratitude for being able to stay in such a gorgeous place. Thank you very much for the excellent organisation. Directions were very useful too, so thank you again.
