The Sea Rose | Luxury Coastal Cottage | Cadgwith Cove, Lizard

The Sea Rose

Cadgwith Cove, Cornwall, UK

The Sea Rose is a luxury coastal cottage set in a prime position in Cadgwith Cove, a quintessential fishing village of whitewashed thatched cottages on the Lizard Peninsula. Follow wildflower pathways and trickling streams down to the blue bay before sitting on “the Todden” as you watch the fishermen tend to their haul below. Singles and honeymooners will adore this matchbox self-catering cottage in its gorgeous fold of maritime Cornwall.

Cagdwith Cove is rich in seafaring history and, in a nod to its salt-washed heritage, The Sea Rose takes its nautical-inspired name from tales of bygone times. Once a honeymoon retreat to the fisherman's cottage next door, The Sea Rose has offered couples a luxury coastal cottage hideaway for over 350 years. Now it's your turn. Charter a boat to explore the coves of the Lizard Peninsula; getting back to nature is a sure way to let the mind succumb to the important things in life. Later, recline in your choice of the day-bed or clawfoot bathtub and listen to the gentle waves swish outside.

Far, far away from the noise of the city, this bijou cottage gives couples the chance to get even closer. Wake up in the morning to the cry of gulls and wriggle further into the king-size bed’s sumptuous embrace. When you are ready to throw back the duvet, the handcrafted kitchen awaits. Pour steaming cups of tea and tuck into breakfasts of fresh pastries before heading out for the day. Upon return, rinse down salty limbs in the raspberry pink shower and curl up on the sofa for a romantic movie night, wine chilled and atmosphere warm.

Tiptoe out to the patio with a coffee in the morning and see the cove come alive at sunrise. Watch as the fishermen launch their salt-weathered boats from the shingle beach and head out to sea. The Lizard Peninsula is the most southerly tip of the UK. Recognised as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and of international botanical importance, the balmy climate plays host to lush vegetation and a riot of colour year round. Walk the coast paths and head to the beach to lay in the sunshine and trace absent-minded patterns in the sand.

From the owner

“We instantly fell in love with Cadgwith and The Sea Rose. Whether it’s reclining on ´little beach´, joining in on a Celtic folk dance, singing sea shanties in the pub with the fishermen or tucking into a tea of delicious local produce, you are sure to fall under its spell just like we have!”

From the owner

When we bought The Sea Rose, we understood that taking on a 350-year-old property was going to have its challenges, but we certainly underestimated the extent and timescale of the work. Even clearing the site for the planned extension resulted in a mammoth removal of 250 tonnes of earth!

When considering the renovations, it was important to us to be authentic as possible. Before us, the cottage belonged to the same fishing family for 100 years. The house got its name from Rose, the sister of the fisherman who owned next door, who was born here and spent her whole life enjoying this Cagdwith cottage.

We embraced the characterful original floorboards and wooden panelling and the layout of the property, with the exception of the extension, remains true to the day we visited the cottage. We've rewired, re-plumbed, re-thatched, aded central heating and sourced local suppliers wherever possible.

From the moonlit walk back to the cottage under starry skies, to waking up to the sound of the waves from the comfort of bed... there's something utterly captivating about The Sea Rose. There's even a great pub just a few steps from the cottage offering food, fires and Friday night sea shanties!

We have had a wonderful week here. The Sea Rose is lovely, and the location and views are perfect! We love Cadgwith Cove, it is such a picturesque and peaceful place to be, and the people are so friendly. We loved the pub, the highlight being the sea shanties on a Friday night! We enjoyed coastal walks in both directions, and we definitely plan to return one day!

We had a wonderful stay, an unforgettable sight onto the ocean, lovely weather, beautiful walks and cycle tours. I will definitely put this one on top of the list, love to come back again.

We had a fantastic break, the cottage was so beautiful we did not want to leave. The standard of furnishings, and attention to detail was outstanding. We will be booking again, so often you book dog-friendly cottages and they are not “human-friendly”, so it was a treat to have such luxury and comfort. Thank you very much for all your assistance in making our break a complete pleasure.

What an amazing, dreamy, magical and superb stay! We loved the interiors and the patio area, it was the best holiday we´ve ever had! The weather was beautiful and Cadgwith is fantastic, meeting the local fishermen was a real treat.

Everything was well laid out, beautifully decorated and most of the essentials (and a number of luxuries) were provided. A lovely cottage, amazing location in a typical fishing village and perfect for a quiet holiday.

We loved The Sea Rose and truly enjoyed our stay. The cottage was decorated beautifully and it was very comfortable. The patio was absolutely fabulous - it got the afternoon sun and was out of the wind.
