Juneberry | Luxury Self-Catering Retreat | Holywell Bay, Crantock

Juneberry

Holywell Bay, Cubert, Cornwall, UK

Tucked away between the trees on Cornwall’s north coast, Juneberry is settled in the quiet idyll of rural bliss. Built with love and raised with only the most natural and sustainable materials around, this luxury cabin is a reclaimed utopia of vintage floral fabrics, organic craftsmanship and eco-friendly credentials - all just two miles from the brown sugar sands and slick surf of Holywell Bay.

Introduction

Once the home of a self-sufficient farmer, now a self-catering retreat for two, this romantic hideaway in Cubert is just the ticket for couples looking to breathe in some fresh country air. A sun-trapped decking, fire pit and not a soul to disturb but birds overhead reign during the summer months, while in winter the moody glamour of Juneberry’s interiors offer a snug retreat to hide from blustery winds. Rough-luxe and oh-so feminine, this cabin in the woods will entice all who stay to up from their city slicks and escape to the country forever.

Inside

With French doors opening straight out onto the garden and far-reaching views over the rolling patchwork of Perran common, Juneberry’s king-size bedroom is as soothing as it is stylish. Dark, floor-length florals, deep teal walls and exposed wood create a cocoon of comfort where long lie-ins sipping coffee beneath the weight of the duvet are the most tempting way to spend each and every morning, while the large bathroom is the perfect place to soak away coastal adventures with rainfall shower and bath tub for two.

Outside

Planted with happy pollinators in mind, Juneberry’s garden is secluded and peaceful. With two lawns to stretch out on, a yoga deck positioned perfectly for morning sun salutations and herbs to add zing to gin and tonics or summer salads, spend days here gently soaking up the good life. Come nightfall, toast marshmallows on the fire pit, wrap in blankets and spot shooting stars fly across the heavens before collapsing into the enormous bed, not a sound murmuring beneath the window other than foraging hedgehogs and scurrying hares.

From the owner

“Inspired by a true countryman who once lived on this spot, Juneberry was designed and created with a ´make do and mend´ ethos. Many of the materials used in the cottage are local or reclaimed, brought back to life with a little bit of love sprinkled on top.”

From the owner

This newly built wooden cabin is on the site of a caravan, which for 40 years was occupied by a true countryman who lived and worked on farms all his life. He lived frugally, recycled everything, and was the master of make do and mend; an ethos we have adopted in the construction of the cabin.

Local larch has been used to clad the wooden frame and much of the material used in the interior has had a previous life, some of it salvaged from the original caravan. Sheep’s wool insulation has been used throughout the building, solar thermal energy heats the water, and we have managed the whole build with minimal disruption to its peaceful surroundings.

There are many ways to spend a day at Juneberry, but our favourite has to be slow and steady, enjoying the space and local area with ease. After mugs of tea and slabs of toasted sourdough slathered with butter and sweet raspberry jam, pack backpacks with towels and head to the golden sands of Holywell Bay, just two miles down the road.

Guest Testimonials

We enjoyed our stay at Juneberry very much. The cabin is lovely it provided just the right level of quirkiness, comfort and space for our taste. The cabin is secluded and private with lovely walks straight from the door into the surrounding countryside and to the beaches. We were pleasantly surprised by the contents of the welcome hamper and liked that there was enough kindling and logs provided for the whole stay! Well done for providing such a lovely place for others to enjoy.

We enjoyed our stay very much! We love how the cabin is decorated, and the garden is very enjoyable to spend time in - it is all very cosy and comfortable. It was a lovely touch that there was plenty of wood laid in the burner and fire pit, plus the location is good for lots of amazing beaches, walks and drives. We would be more than happy to stay again!

The thing that makes Juneberry so special is the privacy it offers. We were specifically looking for something in Cornwall, but apart from that, privacy was the most special part. Apart from a couple of walkers, we didn’t see a soul. It was very special for us to feel like we were the only people on earth during our honeymoon. Everything in the house was pristine and perfectly arranged. We loved it!

So quiet, such an amazing property, and has everything you need including essential oil, loads of choice for coffee & teas, yoga equipment, even marshmallows for the fire pit! Juneberry was immaculately clean. Unique Homestays has some amazing properties and Juneberry certainly is one of them. A very special place. Thank you so much Unique!

The property is perfect. It is private, a home from home and the owners are so very welcoming. I don’t think anything further could possibly be added to Juneberry, as it is wonderful just as it is! Thank you.

We have had an incredibly relaxing stay at Juneberry. We especially appreciated the hamper full of fresh goodies, and we took the walk through rolling pastures to Holywell Bay on more than one occasion. Quite a lot of thought has gone into the interior design and overall comfort at Juneberry, and Pat and Bob were the most gracious hosts on arrival and departure. It is a gem of a find and the perfect introduction to Cornwall!

Juneberry is a lovely property with very attentive owners who responded quickly to any contact. They also provided a fantastic basket of local produce as an arrival gift which was a lovely touch. The outdoor areas of the decking and garden are wonderful, and perfect for our dog to enjoy. Thank you!

Thank you for creating this special place! We have had a truly restful weekend at Juneberry and despite ´flaming June´ not really being so flaming it has been a lovely place to rest, walk, eat (thank you for the fabulous hamper) and enjoy time with our dog Eddie. We will miss the birdsong, the tranquillity, and of course the beautiful coast.

What a wonderful stay we´ve had at Juneberry. Such a beautiful place in a stunning location, just what we needed to recharge the batteries and find ourselves again! We have been inspired by our stay here. Thank you for creating such a special place and for your warm hospitality.

Thank you for being fantastic hosts. We loved staying in this amazing little cabin hidden away in the trees. Juneberry is so beautifully decorated and thought out, everyone who stays here will love it! We are really sad to be leaving, but we will definitely be back. The resident pheasant (we decided to call him Noah) also gave us a fabulous welcome, and was not phased by our dog at all. He is definitely ´Lord of the Manor´ at Juneberry.

We have loved every minute. This has been one of the most relaxing and tranquil holidays we have had. From the dawn chorus to the owls calling at dark, each day here has been perfect. The personal welcome from the owners was very much appreciated as was our welcome hamper. If you like walking, there is a path through fields that leads to Holywell, from there you have access to the lovely coastal path. We would also recommend the Smugglers Den for food which is just a 5 minute walk! Thank you very much.
