The Poet´s Hideaway

St Breward, Bodmin Moor, Cornwall, UK

Steeped in history and wrapped-up in romance, this sweet stone cottage sits on the western fringes of Bodmin Moor within easy reach of the pretty fishing villages of Port Isaac, Padstow and Rock on the north Cornwall coast. From sunset walks along the beach to moorland picnics within a scene of trickling streams and freely roaming ponies, a luxury escape to The Poet's Hideaway will provide the perfect couple's retreat.

Introduction

With its unique desolate beauty, North Cornwall's Bodmin Moor makes an enchanting destination for couples and solo travellers wanting to escape the everyday. Country lanes twist through rolling moorland to reach this luxury cottage nestled in a tiny hamlet near St Breward. Once used as a reading room to encourage literacy amongst the local children, The Poet’s Hideaway oozes charm from every wonky beam, nook and cranny. The chalky, vintage cottage interior combines with the utopian setting to make a tranquil retreat for the most relaxing of staycations.

Inside

Taking influence from Scandinavian design, the cottage is a perfect balance of functionality and aesthetics. A neutral colour scheme brings out the beauty of the original features. Let the sweet melodies of birdsong lure you from sleep in the king-size bed. Stay wrapped up in the sheets and draw straws on who's rustling up breakfast. Eventually giving into the beautiful countryside views, don walking boots and head outside for adventure. Upon return, snuggle by the fire, glass of smooth red and tasty amuse-bouches waiting. For bookworms, the upstairs snug room is the perfect nook to fall between the pages.

Outside

The secluded garden is filled with blooms, shady trees and a stream which runs along the bottom of the lawn. The sunny deck provides an idyllic spot for scoffing scones and rosé on a balmy afternoon, whilst the inviting summerhouse, with cosy armchairs and vintage trunk table, is best for the Sunday morning papers. Wander down the lane and you'll discover the nearest villages of St Breward and St Tudy, each boasting brilliant pubs with crackling fires. To burn off some energy, pick up the Camel Trail from nearby Wenford Bridge, making a pitstop at Camel Valley Vineyard.

From the owner

“We think The Poet´s Hideaway is the perfect retreat to get away from the hustle and bustle. Creative souls will relish the peace and tranquillity which comes in abundance here. With so many corners, couples can spread out or cosy up as much or as little as they wish!”

From the owner

The Poet’s Hideaway is nestled within a tiny unspoilt hamlet together with a handful of other equally attractive stone-built properties.

When we first saw the cottage, we knew that behind the neglected and unloved exterior, it had such great potential. We spent several months working with a great team to completely renovate the property and transform it into the idyllic rural retreat you see today - it is unrecognisable from the house we first saw all that time ago!

St Breward lies on the edge of Bodmin Moor, deep in Poldark country. Designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Bodmin Moor provides a haven for birds and wildlife and is popular with hikers and ramblers with miles of way-marked trails.

The first episode of the Poldark series, set in the 1700s, sees Ross returning from fighting in the American Revolution to his estate, Nampara, which has been allowed to go to seed in his absence. The filming of Nampara took place near St Breward, where today the Poet’s Hideaway could double as one of Ross’s labourer’s stone cottages!

Guest Testimonials

We had a wonderful time at The Poet´s Hideaway. This place is well situated and beautifully decorated! We appreciated spending time in the cottage, to curl up with a book in the "old reading room" and to explore the area. We are very happy with the whole experience we had with Unique Homestays, and will certainly be in contact with you again for forthcoming holidays.

This property was just what we were looking for. It was small, picturesque and cosy. The decor and furnishings were the sort or style my wife and I like and the log fire was a great feature and well used!

The welcome hamper was just lovely, a really nice touch and you can tell the owner´s haven´t skimped on the quality of the interiors of the property. It really is a beautiful home and location. They should be proud of their home like anyone would be if they owned it.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Poet´s Hideaway and had a great week in Cornwall. The cottage was lovely and cosy, the decor immaculate, the bed incredibly comfy and the shower fabulously refreshing! Ted, the Pointer from next door made great friends with our Westies, who looked forward to his daily visits!
