Cinnamon Cottage | Luxury Self-Catering | Higher Ashton, Devon

Cinnamon Cottage

Higher Ashton, Devon, UK

A traditional thatched roof crowns this cute-as-a-button country home, stuffed to the beams with chocolate-box charm. Cinnamon Cottage is a luxury self-catering cottage in the quaint village of Higher Ashton in Devon and, with room for six guests and two dogs, family holidays in the rolling Devonshire countryside have never looked so tempting.

Introduction

With traditional wooden beams and mullioned windows, this 17th century almshouse has been beautifully restored to create a stylish self-catering abode with a welcoming ambience. Idyllically situated in a sleepy village setting between the Teign Valley and Haldon Hill, the Grade-II listed cottage boasts far-reaching views "o'er the hills and far away". Explore the wilds of Dartmoor National Park by day and return in the evening to rouse the ambient glow of the fire and breathe a bottle of red, later shared over a black and white film.

Inside

Revel in country cottage living with the added joy of contemporary luxuries. Keeping authentic features such as the natural wood and exposed stone, the owners have created a sumptuous sanctuary. In the morning, pad down to the farmhouse-style kitchen, warmed by the Aga, and pour yourself a fresh coffee before plotting the day's activities. In winter, the living room is especially cosy adorned with thick blankets and throws. When evening cloaks the cottage in a magical darkness, two double bedrooms and one twin are draped in soft linens, providing a sanctuary for all.

Outside

The sweet cottage gardens provide a peaceful spot to recline during dreamy mornings and hazy afternoons; nestle into the quirky beanbags and watch the white fluffy clouds pass by overhead with the melodic peal of the church bells in the background. In springtime the Teign Valley is covered in wild snowdrops, bluebells and daffodils and is a fantastic base from which to explore Dartmoor and the magical waterfalls in Devon. In summer months the beautiful South Hams beaches will prove perfectly placed for a good old-fashioned day at the seaside.

From the owner

“We hope you enjoy the relaxed and homely feel to our escape-from-it-all cottage, where farmhouse-inspired interiors reflect the rural setting. Don’t forget to pack your walking boots to ensure you make the most of the idyllic surrounds!”

From the owner

The house was probably originally built in the 1400s and it would have been built as three estate cottages, each as a one up, one down roomed house. The kitchen has an original floor and the middle staircase runs up through the middle chimney. The cottages would have housed workers for the local estate, Ashton Manor.

We have decorated Cinnamon Cottage in a simple, elegant and understated way to suit the style of the cottage, but have added quirky art pieces throughout. We hope you fall for its charm as much as we have and embrace the local area with its plethora of things to see and do.

We´ve had a wonderful week relaxing in this beautiful cottage. The fairy lights and Aga in the kitchen, the open fire in the lounge and the character throughout all make it feel very homely. Cinnamon Cottage is in a great location for exploring Devon and walking in Dartmoor. It´s been a lovely break - we´re sad to be leaving.

Thank you. We have stayed in many lovely cottages but this one is magical. We ate all of the hamper goodies, and discovered Ullacombe Farm Shop! The Aga is lovely and cosy in the mornings, even with the stable door left open for Hamish, our Retriever. We walked in the forest, and loved Salcombe the best. The local pub there is good too! We hope to return in the near future.
