From the owner

“We love to sit outside the front door, soaking up the evening calm that descends. When hungers kicks in, there´s nothing better than lingering over a barbeque in the garden listening to the owls hooting.”

From the owner

Barrington Court was the first property acquired by the National Trust in 1907. Colonel Lyle took the lease and acquired the adjoining farmland; Goldhorn was built as part of his restoration and renovation of 16th century Barrington Court in the early 1920's and was designed by architects Forbes and Tate.

Colonel Lyle planted the original avenues and added the arts and crafts model farm buildings on his own land. The third generation of Lyles left Barrington Court in the early 1990s; the Court reverted to the National Trust and all the adjoining properties were sold.

We were looking for a family home off the beaten track and could not believe our luck when we found Goldhorn. The house was in a sad state of disrepair but the fabric of the building is Edwardian and rock solid. We made the house into a home, adding bathrooms, central heating and opening up the top floor, whilst changing as little of the original character as possible.

Guest Testimonials

The setting is spectacular, secluded without being isolated, the garden is pretty and well maintained. The house felt warm and it is fabulous that there are so many books. We did not use wood burner as the weather was so fantastic but it would have been cosy on a winter´s evening. We could walk to Barrington Court within moments and our grandson loved riding his bike on the traffic-free road. We were lucky enough to see glorious sunsets to the front of the property and the huge, blood-red harvest moon to the rear. This was the first time we have stayed in Somerset and we are most impressed.

What a wonderful weekend, our second visit to Goldhorn! We have had glorious autumnal weather, and the house and ambience were just perfect for the most relaxing stay.

Thank you for a wonderful stay in your beautiful home. Relaxing with family enjoying the tranquil Somerset countryside. With the added enjoyment of celebrating a 21st birthday here, this house has created some fabulous and amazing memories!

We were so sad to leave! We have decided to make this property our go to for further family gatherings and would love to return for a week next year.

Super weekend celebrating a 40th & a 30th Birthday. The house is beautiful, very homely and well-equipped. Daffodils were at their best and the sun shone. Excellent walks from the door to Shepton Beauchamp and Stocklinch. Excellent dinner at The Barrington Boar. A weekend of wonderful memories, long meals and good conversation. Thank you.

This really is a special place. The link to Barrington House is wonderful, with the beautiful secret gardens to explore. The people running the house are incredibly helpful - the housekeeper is warm and friendly and thorough and the hamper we received on arrival was stunning and much appreciated after the trip. The beds were super comfortable, the linen was glorious and the fact that there were so many bathrooms was really great. We really think this is an outstanding property and hope to return.
