If being amidst the hub of a quintessentially English village is more your idea of a rural idyll than holidaying in the sticks, then Burdock Fox is the one for you. This luxury self-catering cottage is sat beside the village inn in the heart of Castle Combe, crowned England's prettiest village, and offers ample opportunity for leisure and play. Wonderfully eccentric, Burdock Fox is set over four beautifully appointed floors, with enough original exposed beams, roaring woodburners and roll top bathtubs to make one feel as though they are in their own romantic costume drama.

Home to the cosiest living room in town, complete with library wall, cosy sofas and tall gamebird print armchairs set around a roaring log fire, leisurely days are well-catered for here. When the rain starts, flit between bathtub to kitchen to cosy pew, and treat yourself to all the rest and relaxation you deserve. With more than enough space for the whole family, the luxurious themes are continued across the bedrooms. Boasting two double, one king-size, one super king-size and one twin bedroom, blissful nights between 600 thread count Egyptian cotton linens will be had by all.

In the heart of Castle Combe, just step outside Burdock Fox to roam the picture-perfect village and surrounding countryside of Castle Combe on the doorstep. The village is famed for its film set appeal, providing the backdrop for many blockbusters including Warhorse, Stardust and the original Dr Dolittle - even the wisteria on the front of Burdock Fox was gifted to the owner from Spielberg himself! On a summer’s afternoon, the leafy courtyard garden will be the perfect spot for a game of Scrabble with a glass of rosé and plate of locally made cream scones, liberally topped with jam.

From the owner

“I love the incredible inside space and winding corridors at Burdock Fox; the fact you have the ability to get lost in what is not a huge house. On a Sunday afternoon, one of my favourite things is to stroll down to the Manor for a gin and tonic after playing a great round of golf.”

From the owner

I first visited Castle Combe as a child and have many happy memories from that holiday, never imagining we could be part of this lovely village. We loved the unique character and fascinating history of the house.

The village is almost like a place where time has stood still, with no TV aerials and no streetlights. Castle Combe has for years been popular as a film location that demonstrates its unique olde-worlde charm; Dr Doolittle, Warhorse, Wolfman, and Stardust are only some of the films made here. The inside of Burdock Fox itself has also featured in some films as well as in TV's Poirot. We have tried to keep its very special original features intact whilst also providing a luxurious escape.

Castle Combe is known as the prettiest village in England and this house is, in fact, two houses hailing from three periods; the basement is a 14th century undercroft and highly unusual being made from stone, whilst the rear is the original village forge from the 15th century (the large inglenook fireplace is still the kitchen hob) and the front is a typical Georgian merchant's fancy from 1762.

We have tried to make the house a cosy home-from-home, whilst maintaining the very important history and equip it for the modern demands of the discerning traveller.

Burdock Fox is amazing! The weather was not too kind to us, but this did not affect our stay as we had a great time. We were so pleased we could take our dog too, he loved all the lovely walks nearby. The photos online are exactly how it is in real life!

This was the last home we stayed in during a three home marathon spanning a month; the attractiveness of Burdock Fox and its location made it a no brainer! It was absolutely wonderful, and we´re very likely to come again the next time we´re in the UK!

I will definitely use your service again and have already recommended you to friends. The house was lovely in every way. The welcome basket in particular was wonderful and the fresh flowers and fresh loaf of bread were very much appreciated. The housekeeper was lovely and very helpful too. Thank you for a great stay.
