West Cornwall's tranquil Penryn River provides the picture-perfect backdrop for this luxury waterside retreat in Flushing. Grandly standing to attention on the riverbank alongside a neat row of elegant Queen Anne style houses, this large Victorian family home is all about the location. From boat trips to hot tub frolics to sandcastle building at low tide on the private beach below, a holiday at Atlas House may only last a week or two but will linger in the mind a lifetime. Gather your gaggle (and up to two pups) and look forward to an extra special Cornish escape.

Inside

Spanning three floors and awash with contemporary coastal style, Atlas House is a dreamy escape from everyday life. Wake up to beautiful views and the distant cry of gulls and linger over long breakfasts in the sleekly designed kitchen with floor-to-ceiling sliding doors. Head out to explore at your leisure and upon returning home, sun-kissed and salty-lipped, settle down by the roaring double-sided wood burner while children scarper to the cinema den. Designed for large groups, Atlas House has seven gorgeous bedrooms providing blissful repose for extended families and gatherings of friends.

Outside

Winding through the Cornish lanes with spirits high and a boot full of seaside goodies is a fitting way to start a family holiday at Atlas House. With an abundance of outside space, children will love to cartwheel along the lawn, go crabbing or launch kayaks and paddle-boards (the owners provide two of each) from the private beachfront at the bottom of the garden, leaving grown-ups to drink in the views from the hot tub. With boats sailing the Carrick Roads visible from almost every window, it will be a hard task tearing your gaze away from the tranquil scenes of this unique coastal haven.

Getting there

  • On the Map Set on the riverbanks in Flushing, this luxury homestay sits just across the water from Falmouth and not far from the cathedral city of Truro in Cornwall.
  • By Car From London, take the M4 toward Bath, take M5 South and A30 to Cornwall and follow the directions provided to the property.
  • By Train Truro train station is approximately half an hour away by car, with regular mainline services from London Paddington.
  • By Air Newquay airport is approximately 45 minutes drive away, with regular flights to London.

Atlas House was originally built in 1901, so is technically Edwardian, although sports a very Victorian design. We bought the property in 2012 and added the kitchen, master bedroom extension and renovated the interior, as the house had not been lived in full time for over 10 years.

We moved in on May 8th 2014 and have really enjoyed turning it back into a very loved family home with our young children. We have tried to keep some of the original character of the house and add a contemporary feel. The entrance door and servants bell in the hallway are original and used to be in the old kitchen which was where the utility and entrance hall are today.

Flushing is a really special village, and we hope you enjoy it as much as we do. My husband grew up in Cornwall and knew the secret of Flushing and this special road from his childhood spent on Flushing beach and on boats in and around Falmouth. It’s a real dream for us to spend time here and have this special home.

A huge part of the appeal for us revolves around the water and the sea plays a big role in our lives daily, whether it's watching a storm, a boat race, kayaking, paddle-boarding or going out on our boat. We moved to Singapore in July 2017 and plan to holiday in Cornwall every year as we miss it so much.

The owners have furnished and equipped it above and beyond what you would expect from a rental home. They are also exceedingly generous with the equipment that they provide. Atlas House was in an ideal location as we like to be by the water. It was also large enough for us all to stay comfortably, including our dog! We enjoyed the beautiful view and accommodation, thank you so much!

I cannot find fault, the house was beautifully presented and equipped with everything we might possibly have asked for and more! The house had the wow factor and having booked it on behalf of the family group, I felt responsible for the selection, which everybody loved!

Atlas House is spacious, well furnished and so relaxing. It´s in a great location and has such wonderful views. Direct water access is such a great feature. The house manager is fabulous, very helpful and lovely to have been met at the house on our arrival.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here at Atlas House and will be recommending to family and friends. The house exceeded our expectations and we will be using Unique Homestays again. The hamper and information about the area was a nice touch, in fact we went to all the food places mentioned! The house was exceptionally clean, and we loved all the details that have gone into the decor. Thank you for an enjoyable experience. We made some lovely. We didn´t want to leave!
