Flaunting a glorious riverside position overlooking the fashionable maritime town of Falmouth, Atlas House sits on the banks of the Penryn River in the verdant west Cornwall village of Flushing. Luxury self-catering home with hot tub near Falmouth, Cornwall

West Cornwall's tranquil Penryn River provides the picture-perfect backdrop for this luxury self-catering homestay in Flushing. Grandly standing to attention on the riverbank alongside a neat row of elegant Queen Anne style houses, this large Victorian family home is awash with contemporary coastal style, with its focus all about the views. From boat trips to hot tub frolics and sand-castle building at low tide on the little private beach below, a holiday at Atlas House may only last a week or two, but will linger in the mind a lifetime.

Bedrooms and Bathrooms

This bountiful seaside home spans over three floors. On the first, the master bedroom features a king-size bed, en suite bathroom and sliding doors leading to a private balcony overlooking the harbour to St Mawes. There's a standard double plus two king-size double bedrooms with stunning sea views, one of which has an en suite shower room. As well as the family bathroom with separate shower and bath, there is an additional ground floor WC. The second floor is home to one twin and two single bedrooms, plus a bathroom with shower and small bath perfectly sized for little ones!

Winding through the Cornish lanes with a boot-full of buckets and spades singing "Oh I do like to be beside the seaside!" is a fitting way to start a family holiday at Atlas House. With an abundance of outside space, children will love to cartwheel along the lawn, go crabbing or launch kayaks and paddleboards (the owners provide two of each!) from the private beachfront at the bottom of the garden, leaving grown-ups to drink-in the views from the hot tub. With boats sailing The Carrick Roads past almost every window, it will be a hard task tearing yourself away from the tranquillity of this dreamy coastal haven.

For Relaxation

Enjoy a spot of boating up the creek, passing coppiced oaks and intricate flower beds backing onto some of England’s most impressive riverside real estate. Day trip to the trendy harbour town of Falmouth across the river, where quirky art galleries, speciality cafès and tantalising seafood restaurants await. Returning home sun-kissed and salty-lipped, the roaring double-sided wood burner and cinema den make Atlas House a cosy refuge after the day's adventures.

The high-spec kitchen flaunts a Britannia induction hob, double oven, American fridge freezer and microwave. There is an additional fridge freezer in the utility room, alongside a separate double sink, washing machine and tumble dryer. Although gated, young children should be supervised around the steep steps to the beach. Street parking is available. Although dogs are welcome, please keep dogs out of the TV room.

Our Take

Property Owner Lorna says

My husband grew up in Cornwall so knew the secret of Flushing and this special road from his childhood, much of which was enjoyed playing on Flushing Beach and on boats in and around Falmouth. To have a home here for our own family is a dream come true.

All Aboard The coast surrounding Flushing offers a wealth of opportunity for adventure; from secret beaches to characterful fishing villages and waterside pubs with their own pontoons. With parking restricted at these popular creek-chic hangouts, why not charter a yacht and arrive in style?

History and Architecture History buffs will love to explore St Mawes castle, as well as its larger sister Pendennis Castle on the other side of the Fal estuary. Check the events calendars as there may well be an outdoor play or film showing during your stay.

Beach Days With a delicious picnic of Camel Valley bubbly and finger sandwiches, head to the coast for a good old fashioned day at the beach. Gyllyngvase beach is five miles away, a popular blue flag beach with good amenities and great for paddle boarding, or chose between Swanpool, Maenporth and Castle beach, each around twenty minutes drive away with their own unique beauty.

Cornwall's Capital The cathedral town of Truro is a short drive away and boasts boutique shops, cosmopolitan eateries and a lively farmer's market every Saturday. Well worth a visit!

Trefusis Beach Armed with crab line, fishing net, bucket and spade, children will love to spend hours playing on the private beachfront at the bottom of the steps. The hardest task will be luring them back inside for supper!

With granite worktops and warm grey panelling, the luxury kitchen is in-keeping with the home's period style - but with every mod con you could wish for. To impress the family with home-cooked delights, head to Truro to catch the farmer's market, or the local Waitrose which includes a whole section dedicated to Cornish produce.

In-House Cuisine

If you'd rather spend your self-catering break indulging in the little luxuries, let an in-house chef prepare a mouth-watering meal for you and your party (on prior request and subject to an additional cost).

Eating Out

The Royal Standard, Seven Stars and Waterside will be your trio of locals, each less than half a mile's walk away. To dine with a view, walk along the beautiful headland to Castaways set in the scenic Mylor Harbour, or make an entrance by arriving to the renowned Pandora Inn by boat, where you can enjoy a scenic supper on the jetty. Seaside perfection.
