Introduction

The journey to Porthcurno may be long, but as A roads give way to winding country lanes and towns merge to higgledy-piggledy villages, the excitement for a seaside holiday, seemingly at the ends of the earth, grows. For those who can't resist a scenic route, take a detour through Newlyn and Mousehole and then along the coastal road, where hedgerows tangled with honeysuckle and wild clematis sneak glimpses of the sparkling ocean before arriving at Elowen, a vision of white against Penwith’s green and pleasant hills.

Inside

Yellow for the sunshine gorse flowers which pepper the cliffs, pink for the heather which creeps between, blue for the ocean and white for the clouds which float through the skies; Elowen’s colour scheme mimics West Cornwall’s handsomely untamed landscape. Breeze from the open-plan kitchen-diner to the lounge (with separate snug, perfect for children) before heading upstairs to the bedrooms. When storms rush across the horizon come winter, take up residence on the master bedroom’s blush sofa, immersed in the force of nature from the comfort of the contemporary interiors.

Outside

The south-facing gardens were made with entertaining in mind, with two outdoor lounges, a fire pit, hot tub, large dining table and heated swimming pool (April - October). Down the road, Porthcurno Beach, with its white sand and inviting turquoise water begs for days spent paddling and making sandcastles, while the South West Coast Path traverses up and down cliffs in both directions, leading adventurers to secret coves that can only be reached by foot. For those in search of gastronomic delights, Mousehole, Newlyn and Penzance are just a short drive away.

From the owner

“As soon as we walked into Elowen and looked out of the window, we fell in love.”

From the owner

Sitting on the sofa in the master bedroom, we love to take in the views across this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The valley which draws your eyes down to the sea changes colours with the seasons and stuns no matter the weather.

For us, the location is perfect. Elowen has the benefit of being mere minutes away from Porthcurno and Sennen beaches, and not much further to Newlyn and Mousehole's popular restaurants and galleries. However, tucked away in a quiet hamlet, once you step inside the house there is a real feeling of escape and seclusion.

We always wanted to find somewhere we could enjoy with family and friends; Elowen gives us the space we need for everyone to come together, with plenty of cosy bedrooms, entertaining spaces and places to relax.
