From the owner

“We have really tried to make The Butlery, part of our striking Tudor manor right on the seafront, a little oasis of calm to which guests can retreat to refresh, revitalise and enjoy the wonderful atmosphere.”

From the owner

The Butlery is a Grade-II listed Arts & Crafts house built in 1920 during Sandwich Bay’s ‘golden era’. Designed by CD Biddulph Pinchard, the property was built using a combination of Tudor materials, including two Dutch weaver’s cottages brought over from Holland, and a local Tudor barn.

Historically a playground for London society, Sandwich Bay has a rich history of famous visitors over the years who have sought the privacy and natural beauty of the Bay. The Butlery offers both a ‘sea’ and ‘country’ experience in one, and is as much a Mecca for cyclists, bathers and birdwatchers as it is for golfers.

Nestled at the junction of the Royal St George’s golf course and the sea, you will be just a hop and a skip away from a myriad of beautiful walks or rides, and the protection of the bay makes it an ideal spot for a dip in the sea.

East Kent has a vibrant set of communities well worth investigating. From the rejuvenated arts community of Margate’s old town, to Whitstable’s seaside food and drink - there really is something for everyone.

Guest Testimonials

We’ve had a lovely holiday before the arrival of our son, the location is magical and The Butlery is really comfortable, with everything we could have wanted to really relax.

We had a lovely stay there. We especially liked how peaceful it was at night and we loved hearing the sea from the house. It was great having the house so close to the beach as we could get the kids there easily and the boys also enjoyed the play room provided too.

My family and I were extremely pleased with our holiday at The Butlery, it was very special. We enjoyed the quiet location and authentic cottage immensely. We spent our days touring the Kent area and the nights relaxing with some home cooked meals in the comfort of the cottage. Many thanks for recommending this lovely property to us. Kind Regards.

This is a beautiful spot! All that is shown and listed on the website is delivered in The Butlery. We’ve had a wonderful, peaceful stay. Thank you for all the details. Sandwich is a lovely spot.

We loved the property and would definitely return. The proximity to the beach was amazing, and although the weather was windy and rainy, we enjoyed the house all the more as we were inside a lot. On our one sunny day we loved our walk into Sandwich.

Thank you for a brilliant weekend. The Butlery was everything it said it would be on the internet. The house is beautiful, very comfortable and clean and we enjoyed the lovely hamper. The surroundings were quiet and peaceful, perfect for a relaxing break, and the closeness of the sea was perfect. We thought the playroom was a great idea and we enjoyed playing pool and table tennis. We hope to come back again soon.

Thank you so much for a wonderful stay. We have had a fabulous time in this gorgeous house. The attention to detail has been great and we especially loved the lovely welcome hamper that was left on our arrival. The facilities for families have been perfect, especially with our 7 month baby. Thank you again.

Another wonderful holiday with Unique Homestays. The Butlery is an amazing place to stay and has everything we needed for a relaxing break away. Thank you for the fantastic hamper we found on arrival- very generous. The cottage and its setting alongside the beach is incredible.

A true pleasure to stay in such a character filled home. Fabulously equipped with every need catered for. The only negative is that a weekend isn´t long enough! We would definitely recommend to anyone looking to shut off and get away from the stress and manic-ness of everyday life.

I cannot say in words what a wonderful stay we´ve had! The Butlery is so peaceful and in a such a gorgeous setting! The decor is beautiful, we were so impressed by all the mod cons in the kitchen. I am so pleased to have come here to explore Kent. The playroom is also genius, the girls really enjoyed being in there with a variety of toys. Thank you again!

It has been a joy to stay at The Butlery, it really is a delightful little house in a perfect situation. The whole experience was delightful and our first trip to East Kent will hopefully be the first of many, with future stays at The Butlery or The Restoratory high on the list.

We have had a very relaxing week here. Thank you for the lovely hamper, drinking fizz on the beach is a lovely way to start a holiday! The house is fabulous, well equipped and comfortable. The playroom was very well used by our daughter. We will happily come back here again!

It has been so wonderful coming back here! As always, the houses are beautiful and so comfortable- we don´t want to leave and look forward to when we can come back.

We enjoyed our stay, loved the beams, exposed brickwork and shutters, and the bed is so comfortable! A very nice cosy cottage with everything you need, loved the vintage style kitchen. Thank you, we´ve had a lovely time and would definitely come back.

Thanks for a lovely stay- the house is beautifully decorated with thoughtful touches and really cosy and warm. We loved the toiletries, bed linen and all the books and the lovely hamper, beach towels, iPod dock etc. Secret cupboard is also brill!

It really is a fantastic location, it´s unusual to stay somewhere that is right on a beach and surrounded by countryside - huge skies, little sound except birdsong, great views along the coast. The property itself is stylish and interesting with the Arts and Crafts history etc. Francesca, Peter and the housekeeper Sarah were friendly and helpful
