The Restoratory

Sandwich Bay, Kent, UK

Coveting an enviable location right on the seafront in the sought-after private estate of Sandwich Bay, this luxury self-catering home in Kent is one for the A-list. Topped off with direct access to sandy toes, far-reaching views of the sea and great proximity to nearby amenities, the gorgeous Restoratory will soon become your family's favourite place to be.

Introduction

Flaunting a vintage theme with Art Deco-inspired styling, The Restoratory is a resplendent Tudor-style country house set within a gated estate in Sandwich Bay. After a day at the seaside, catch up on that long overdue reading list beneath a floppy sun hat whilst the children play happily alongside in the garden. The nearby trendy foodie haunt of Whitstable is a must-visit for lovers of seafood, whilst golf aficionados will covet the proximity to world-class golf courses such as Royal St George's, Royal Cinque Ports, and Prince's.

Inside

With Designer's Guild fabrics, literary-themed artwork and interesting artefacts peppered throughout, The Restoratory is as unique as it is luxurious. With careful attention to detail and beautiful interiors throughout, the themes continue into the bedrooms. Home to both a double bedroom with stylish king-size bedstead and a calming zip-and-link bedroom (which can be arranged as a twin or super-king), hunkering down beneath scrumptious eiderdowns for an uninterrupted night's sleep filled with sweet dreams won’t come soon enough.

Outside

Sandwich Bay is a long sweeping inlet of the sea between Ramsgate and Deal on the east coast of Kent and is one of the best-preserved medieval towns in the UK. Set within the estate's five miles of private beachfront, The Restoratory has an al fresco dining courtyard area where the distant call of seabirds will provide the soundtrack to your day. Traditional clapperboard beach huts provide a fun addition to the English country garden, in which children will be delighted to find shrimping nets (the beach is one of the UK’s best for shrimping!).

From the owner

“I wanted to create a really indulgent space for guests to curl up with a book and just enjoy the surroundings, and to offer a luxurious base from which to explore the area. The uniqueness is what first attracted me, and I hope guests will love it as much as we do!”

From the owner

The Restoratory is part of a Grade-II listed Arts & Crafts house built in 1920 during Sandwich Bay’s ‘golden era’. Designed by CD Biddulph Pinchard, it was built using a combination of Tudor materials, including two Dutch weaver’s cottages brought over from Holland, and a local Tudor barn.

Once a playground for London High Society, Sandwich Bay has a long history of famous visitors over the years who have sought the privacy and natural beauty of the Bay. The Restoratory offers both a ‘sea’ and ‘country’ experience in one, and is as much a Mecca for cyclists, bathers and birdwatchers as it is for golfers.

Nestled at the junction of the Royal St George’s golf course and the sea, you will be just a stone’s throw away from a number of picturesque walks or rides. To paddle your toes in the water, the protection of the bay makes it an ideal spot for a dip in the sea, or even a spot of shrimping!

As a founding Cinque port, Sandwich has a rich historical legacy, and the surrounding areas certainly have plenty of history for visitors to explore. From the rejuvenated arts community of Margate’s old town, to Whitstable’s seaside food and drink - there really is something for everyone.

Guest Testimonials

The Restoratory is beautifully decorated, with lovely personal touches. The location right by the sea is peaceful and we took daily beach walks. Sandwich, Deal and Whitstable were all close by and we enjoyed having easy access to them. The hamper with locally sourced products was very welcome, we used it all! An amazing set of films to watch; interesting, non-cheesy and varied. We were spoilt for choice. Just fabulous!

First and foremost, we were looking for a high quality self-catering option for our family to relax and we had confidence in Unique Homestays having used you twice before. Again, we really liked the layout of the house… especially our 1 year old who loved exploring it! The games room was also a nice bonus. We were, as ever, extremely pleased with the property and always recommend you to our like-minded friends and colleagues! Thank you.

We had a truly wonderful stay! The Restoratory is a beautiful and charming home and a perfect cosy hideaway even when the weather is particularly bad. Thank you for the welcome hamper, we enjoyed all the goodies and we look forward to our return when the sun is out!

Just brilliant. Love the house, love the artwork and love the location! We’ve had so much time on the beach, great for our dog who goes home very happy. Thank you!

We wanted a place to escape to, not too far from London and this was the perfect spot. The location of the house is stunning, gorgeous views and walks, peaceful yet not far to travel to see fabulous history, interesting culture and leisure. Our favourites: Walmer Castle, Botany Bay and of course Sandwich. However the experience of staying in your wonderful home will linger longest in our memories.

The calm, peaceful and beautifully rustic charm of the Restoratory should be bottled and offered as a tonic to everyone, am sure the world would be a better place. We had such a wonderful time here at the Restoratory, our biggest challenge was mixing our ´tourist itinerary’ of places to visit as opposed to simply staying here and enjoying!

Thank you so much for a wonderful stay. This place was exactly what we were looking for; relaxing, quiet and stress free. You have done a fantastic job in creating the perfect haven for a weekend getaway. We’ll definitely recommend this to friends. P.S It was so romantic we got engaged!

What a magnificent location and certainly the best-looking house in Sandwich Bay! The Restoratory is a perfect little hideaway, well equipped, beautifully and thoughtfully decorated and very comfortable. We loved the ‘little extras’ on arrival and the children just loved the playroom!

A really wonderful stay, we certainly plan to return and hopefully book The Butlery too for additional family. We loved the location and the care you have taken in decorating the house with everything anyone could need.

We all really loved our wonderful and cosy holiday cottage! Had a great time and felt right at home with all the lovely goodies presented on our arrival. Thank you very much! The kitchen is very well stocked and we found it extremely helpful to have the essential food supplies there for us on our arrival. All together, The Restoratory is just a fantastic place. We hope we will return some time and will be glad to recommend this jewel to our friends and family in the meantime.

We have had a very nice and comfortable stay at The Restoratory. The weather has been great so we have been able to explore many of the helpful recommendations in your house book. Our daughter, who is three years old, loved the playroom and it made for great pre-dinner activity for us all!

This was by far the best place we have stayed in a long time. We didn´t want to go home. The owners style is impeccable, the location was amazing, I can´t praise the place enough.

We booked The Restoratory for a little family getaway for the weekend, and what a fabulous weekend! The house is idyllic, beautifully furnished, classy and elegant! Wonderful location, Sandwich Bay is so tranquil and relaxing. It gave us a great taste of Kent, we all had a brilliant time and would love to visit again. Thanks so much!

We had a wonderful stay in such a lovely setting. Lots of really nice touches make the place feel ´homely´. The place was really well equipped. All in all we had a brilliant stay and would certainly come again!

Many thanks for a wonderful stay. The house was wonderfully well equipped with all the little details thought through. We´ve had a simply wonderful stay and this trip has so recharged the batteries. I could have stayed in the bath all day!

Well, what can I say! This place is absolutely fantastic! You can really tell that a lot of love, care and attention has gone into this place. It´s a perfect gem of a hideaway to escape to. It´s the extra little touches that really set it apart, everything has been thought of!!!
