Playfully renovated by two sisters, a bold fusion of texture, colour and patterns bring zest to 120-year-old Harlequin House, settled amidst secluded gardens overlooking the Deene Park Estate.

Introduction

Up a long, circular driveway and entered through a white-picket gate, Harlequin House and its five acres of gardens are a sylvan utopia on the edge of pretty Horninghold. Reconstructed into the Estate Office for Blaston Hall by Thomas Hardcastle in 1905, what once was a humble Edwardian cottage is now the modern-day answer to the quintessential English country escape; bold, fun and ever-so inviting for jovial days spent playing croquet on the lawns and laughing long into the night.

Inside

Vivacious design and joyful hues delight at every turn inside Harlequin House, and from the bedrooms to the bathrooms, kitchen to snug, happiness ensues. Bespoke Rapture and Wright headboards ensure mornings in bed drinking tea over a novel are a picture-perfect affair, while bursts of sunset orange and forest green bring cheer to even the rainiest of days. Designed to enchant and fashioned to dazzle, there’s no such thing as a dull moment within these energising walls.

Outside

Throw open the doors and run free between the giant banana leaves and twisting apple trees of this luxury home’s five acres of gardens. As the sun starts its journey back down into the horizon, stretch out blankets and bask in golden light; by night, settle by the babbling brook for bedtime stories under the stars. If you must leave, the surrounding countryside is crisscrossed with gentle rivers and leafy pathways where quiet spots in dappled light tempt drawn-out picnics of the best local farm produce.

There is no phone signal at the property, please use WiFi calling.

  • By Car The property is just over 100 miles from London, approximately a two-hour drive.
  • By Train There are direct trains from London St Pancreas to Market Harborough taking less than an hour. (Followed by a 15 minute taxi journey to Harlequin House.) 
  • By Air The East Midlands Airport is one hour away by car; London Luton one hour and 40 minutes.

“Harlequin House is positioned on the edge of Horninghold with views over the sprawling Deene Park Estate. We have an abundance of wildlife roaming the countryside around us and it´s very likely you´ll see rabbits, pheasant, deer and ducks from any of the windows.”

Harlequin House provides a unique escape to a timeless experience of English rural life. The house nestles in the heart of the Welland Valley amidst unspoilt rolling countryside between Leicestershire and Rutland. The quintessential market town of Uppingham is just five minutes drive away whilst the opera at Neville Holt is on the doorstep. There are many great gastro pubs abound in picturesque nearby villages.  

As a family design-house duo, we have lovingly renovated our unique Edwardian home; our love of colour and vibrant design is infused into every part of it. You’ll find bespoke furniture, original art and an eclectic library at Harlequin House, reflecting the things that we love most. 

We must also mention the dreamy south-facing gardens that surround the house and provide a true escape from the hubbub of everyday life. We love to enjoy a morning coffee on the sunken terrace by the brook, where the sound of the water as it trickles past the garden adds to the tranquillity of the already secluded, private garden.
