Delphin | Luxury Self-Catering Beach House | Porthleven, Cornwall

Porthleven, Cornwall, UK

If your dream self-catering escape features simple pleasures such as wild swimming, fine dining and listening to vinyl records by the fire, then this Scandinavian-inspired beach house in Porthleven will be the perfect coastal retreat. Settled in a sheltered clifftop spot, Delphin affords panoramic views of the sweeping bay and ocean between Marazion and the Lizard Peninsula in West Cornwall. A place for artists and for lovers.

Delphin is a sublime coastal retreat perfect for those planning a luxury surf break, unique honeymoon or a recharging getaway with the dog. This modern self-catering beach house has weathered the storms for decades, enjoying an enviable cliff top position just a mile from the popular harbour town of Porthleven. Spend summer days at Delphin walking barefoot along Loe Bar Beach and popping into artisan stores, sourcing the best local produce to eat al fresco on the deck. Later, a soak in the bathtub before drying off in front of the double-sided fireplace will take some beating.

Glass-fronted and with sleek interiors, Delphin exudes the coolness of a Byron Bay beach house with all the class of a beautiful English home. The coastal hues of the contemporary white-focused palette create a calming vibe all year round. Throughout the day savour the incredible views from the deck and at night watch stars twinkle from the floor-to-ceiling windows. See out the day with a tea under the moonlit sky before slipping between its sheets.

The South West Coast Path runs directly behind the house, taking ramblers on a magical journey through the Penrose Estate to Cornwall’s largest natural lake, Loe Pool. Heading over from Loe Bar, Porthleven is a popular spot year-round and in summer foodies flock to try the abundance of restaurants and daredevil local teenagers jump off the harbour walls. When you’ve had your fill of adventure, return to take a spot on Delphin’s deck and relax, smile broad and spirits high, as the sun melts into the ocean beyond the horizon.

From the owner

“My favourite view from our Cornish beach house is through the round window overlooking the coast path. As the path ascends a steep tor, it then disappears over it into the National Trust´s Penrose Estate. Cows and sheep appear over the hill as do walkers and their dogs, it´s beautiful to watch.”

From the owner

The property was originally built in 1955 for the local vicar's housekeeper, and in more recent years it has been used by two families as a holiday home. We bought the property in May 2015, when it was in a very poor state of repair. However, we were captivated by the views and could easily see its potential.

As a family, we love the fishing village of Porthleven and the surrounding countryside. The property is located in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and its cliffs geology are of World Scientific Special Interest. The South West Coast Path is set directly behind the property and takes you on a magical journey through the National Trust's Penrose Estate.

A little further along the coast path is Carminowe Creek, a perfect place for wild swimming. For those visiting in the warmer months, look out for the seals, basking sharks and dolphins at sea who occasionally visit at that time of year. Whatever you decide to do, or not to do, we hope that Delphin exceeds your expectations.

Guest Testimonials

I wanted somewhere which overlooked the sea and was stunning, but where I also felt safe and happy to be there accompanied by my dog. We were both welcomed warmly and the property is utterly outstanding, perfect for a lovely holiday. Delphin is beautiful, styled in such a warm fashion, and I really appreciated the extra touches like candles, it made it a true home-from-home. Thank you!

How can we put into words our stay here? This was our honeymoon and we would not have changed a thing. The view, a visit from the dolphins and the fabulous food and drink. Delphin was spotless and couldn´t have been more romantic. We´ll be back.

We´re back for the second time and once again we´ve had a really lovely week in this perfect little cottage. The weather has been quite wild and so it has been great to return to this haven of warmth and comfort at the end of every day.

In 1969 Neil Armstrong went to the moon and landed in the Sea of Tranquility. He should have come here instead, for this is a place of tranquility. No matter what the weather brings its always a delight to look out over the ocean and watch nature in action. We have loved our stay here. Thank you for such a wonderful place.

I never get up in the morning willingly, but here I found myself eagerly awaiting the spectular sunrise and sounds of the sea, magical. Thank you for making this wonderful spot available to us, and we had the first sunny August Bank Holiday I can remember.

Delphin was by far one of the most beautiful places we have stayed. No matter what the weather was doing it felt very special and we would definitely like to return there one day.

Lovely house, beautiful location with some lovely restaurants within walking distance. It was wonderful to see Dolphins playing in the water. Looking forward to coming back.

Very satisfied and would definitely stay in a Unique Homestay property again. Probably also Delphin. What we did not appreciate at the time of booking was the very good location of Delphin just a 10 min walk into Porthleven and the good selection of restaurants on offer all within walking distance. This actually made the holiday for us. The best property we have stayed in to date.

We have stayed in many high-end holiday lets over the last few years, many courtesy of Unique Homestays but this is easily our best find yet. The attention to detail displayed by the owner is superb and has allowed us to enjoy our week despite rather indifferent weather. We thoroughly recommend the loop walk to Penrose and back along Loe Bar with some dramatic views. Overall a fantastic week. Thank you.

What an amazing place, we love you Little Delphin! So restful just to be here and listen to the waves crashing on the beach. It is a little haven away from the rest of the world. Thank you and I do hope we will return soon.

We have really enjoyed our holiday here, a beautiful place to escape to. We love the ´scandinavian´ feel to the cottage. We especially enjoyed sitting on the balcony enjoying the sun, looking out to sea. We hope to come back. Thank you.

We could stay here forever! Thank you so much for the most peaceful, restful and wonderful few days, we really do not want to leave. It could not have been more perfect, even the sun came out to play! The most beautiful spot and the most gorgeous place ever. Thank you so much.

We had an unforgettable week in Porthleven. First time in Cornwall and we will be back. Delphin is the perfect place to stay, quiet and right on the sea. We managed to see a seal and a school of dolphins from here. We have loved every minute.

Wow! What a special place, truly special. We loved standing on the deck watching the dolphins swim past in the morning and dozing on the patio in the afternoon sun. Delphin has been prepared wonderfully with everything that you would need. We will be back.

We had a great stay at Little Delphin. We spent our days walking on the beach and the beautiful countryside. So exciting to see a seal and dolphins in the bay. A very relaxing stay.

Exquisite! We have come to stay at Little Delphin for our first anniversary, such a perfect place for us, we already live on a beach so being close to the sea is a must. Listening to the sound of the crashing waves and being surrounded by your stunning design and taste. Thank you, we will be back.

What a beautiful and perfect place to spend our mini-moon. We have loved every second and do not want to leave. Being so close to the sea is so peaceful, it is a stay we will never forget.

We arrived deep in the night with pouring rain on our way, we unlocked the door of Delphin and immediately felt at home and in love with this place. We very much treasure the pleasant atmosphere and the thought through concept of the house. Needless to mention the spectacular views. We promise to come back!

We love absolutely everything about your beautiful beach house. The views are spectacular and the walk around Penrose and Loe bar. Porthleven is my favourite place in Cornwall. We can´t wait to return.

Had a fantastic time at Delphin. Beautiful views, great walks and the weather was stunning. The iPad was good to search things to do in the area. We will return!

Everything about Delphin is beautiful! There is nothing better than sitting on the terrace, watching the sea - we even got to see some dolphins! We´ll be back.

Delphin is a beautiful home. Fantastically styled, wonderful views, calm and peaceful. We would recommend the local fishmonger, Quayside Fish for lovely fresh fish to enjoy back at home. Our first as a new family- we hope to be back again.

Thank you for a fabulous stay. We had a very memorable short stay with an amazing view in a beautiful house. Our little Tippie´s first trip away and we also got engaged in this beautiful home. Thank you again and we look forward to visiting in the future. We don´t want to go home.
