St Quentin´s | Luxury Self-Catering Manor | Stanford on Avon, Lutterworth, Leicestershire, UK

St Quentin´s

Lutterworth, Leicestershire, UK

Handed down through the same family since 1697, this Grade I listed country house is anything but ordinary.  Guests are invited to explore seven hundred acres of private estate encompassing avenues of ancient oak trees and wild swimming lakes, while inside, ornate four poster beds, a flying staircase and grand gold ballroom await. Quintessential in form but sidestepping conventionality through its restoration and conservation projects, this luxury self-catering manor challenges all preconceptions of the English stately home.

Introduction

As though it has been plucked from the set of a period drama, St Quentin's sits at the end of a tree-lined drive between two rivers on the Leicestershire and Northamptonshire border. Through the grand doors is a marbled entrance flanked by ancestral portraits in gilt frames. While, all throughout, chandeliers hang from archways, art adorns the walls and a Grandfather clock chimes to tempt guests to settle by the open fire in the drawing room. This luxury self-catering manor has been sympathetically restored to become the picture of a modern day stately home.

Inside

Beneath the painted dome and Stuart portraits of the golden ballroom awaits majestic space for yoga before breakfast; as night falls, this triple-height room perfectly lends itself to its intended use for dancing and entertainment, and even includes a grand piano for musical maestros. For supper, there are two dining rooms within St Quentin's to choose from before retreating to the snooker room or library (housing over 5000 books), for drinks and deep conversation until the small hours, when your four heritage bedrooms tempt deep slumber and long lie-ins over the morning papers.

Outside

Encompassing woodland and lakes, Medieval settlements, rewilding schemes and even a permaculture-led community farm, St Quentin’s 700 acres of grounds encompass so much more than meets the eye. The crowning jewel has to be the walled rose garden during the hot summer months, where peace and tranquillity combine with headily scented blooms; linger awhile on the bench framed by ivory gates with a cool glass of wine and any thoughts of the outside world will quickly dwindle. There are lakes aplenty for those with an affection for wild swimming, and, for those who prefer a quiet corner, there's a yurt and treehouse!

From the owner

“Welcome to St Quentin´s, our home. The house was built in 1697 by Sir Roger Cave in the William & Mary style and generations of our family have lived here since. We hope that you will enjoy the house and wider estate as much as we do.”

From the owner

There are so many ways to enjoy your time at St Quentin's; sunset drinks and a barbeque along the north oak avenue, wild swimming in the natural spring lake and warming up by the woodburner in the yurt, or exploring the many acres of woodland and meadows which surround the private park.

Just a 15 minute walk away is our community farm, where you can pick up your pre-ordered veg box, meet the team and learn about permaculture and no-dig techniques.

Evenings on the lake are simply magical and are abundant in migrating birds floating on the water; this is the perfect place to steal away for a romantic picnic.  The rose garden is a peaceful and tranquil spot to while away some hours.

Inside, the library is our favourite place to come together for drinks and cosy evenings,  while afternoon tea is best served in the yellow drawing room as the golden afternoon light streams in with the Grandfather clock ticking away in the background.
