Self-catering beach house for hire in Burton Bradstock, Dorset

Introduction

Made entirely out of wood and designed with the extensive sea views in mind, this cool, clapboard beach house on the Dorset coast is the perfect place to while away the time throughout each of England’s four seasons. Sat in the footprint of the grassroots self-sufficiency movement, Sugar Ray was rebuilt by the hands of a local craftsman in 2012, taking inspiration from hideaway cabins in the Scottish Highlands.  A simple, eclectic interior encourages a journey through the floor-to-ceiling windows, under the tangled orchard branches and to the sun-trapped outdoor swimming pool beyond.

Bedrooms and Bathrooms

Spread out across one floor, Sugar Ray has three double bedrooms all positioned towards the back of the house. Each bedroom, as luxurious as the next, is bright with natural light, rich in personality and punctuated with characterful furnishings. There is one family bathroom with a roll-top bath and separate shower, one separate WC inside the house and a small WC and changing room near the swimming pool. For afternoon naps and sweet day dreams, take to the day beds in the pool house and dreamy shepherd's hut.

Outside

Overlooking Chesil Beach on the east side of Burton Bradstock, the extensive, informally landscaped gardens were designed for family fun and sun worshipping. With a sunny, south-facing disposition, follow the morning rays as they rise and fall around the house from swimming pool, to orchard, to colourful flower-bed bordered lawn. For daytime sand-between-toes forays the beach is just an easy mile-walk away; in the evenings, gather around the fire pit and watch the coastline twinkle into the night.

For Relaxation

Days here are best spent curled together, fingers linked, watching the weather change over the sea. When the sun is shining, fill the pool house fridge with crisp white wine and float in the outdoor swimming pool, occasionally seeking shade under a tree in the orchard. Of course, it can’t always be balmy in England and when the weather forces time spent inside, here it is time to delight; light the wood burner in the shepherd's hut, cosy down on the day bed with a good book and mug of hot cocoa and slip in and out of daydreams as the rain patters on the roof.

Practicalities

There are two designated parking spaces in the bays outside the property with further available through the cattle gate above the house. The garden is not fully enclosed. The kitchen benefits from a large range oven with six gas hobs, a Nespresso machine, a large fridge and dishwasher. There is one small freezer in the log shed and a fridge and sink in the pool house. The beach is a twenty-minute hike through fields and along the cliff path.
