As the name suggests, this little hamlet is best known for its stunning old church, and the lush tropical gardens that run from the ancient stone doors down to the creek winding lazily past. Sir John Betjeman himself thought it was 'to many people the most beautiful churchyard on earth', and the groups of walkers who stop to admire as they hike past are testament to this. Cornish charm is plentiful in the surrounding area, with the fishing village of St Mawes nearby; its historic castle is one of the best-preserved of Henry VIII’s coastal fortresses.

Walkers can trek around St Anthony’s Lighthouse, whose white light shines its warning across the seas for 22 nautical miles; bring earplugs during foggy weather! Built high into the cliff on St Anthony's Head, the lighthouse enjoys a prime position overlooking busy Falmouth harbour and makes for a steep, scenic stroll. Further north across the headland from St Just is Portscatho Beach, rocky yet perfect for a paddle. Swimmers might prefer neighbouring Porthcurnick, where the golden stretch of sand attracts families and eager rockpoolers.
