Moontide | Luxury Self-Catering Coastal Cabin | Whitsand Bay, Cornwall

Whitsand Bay, Cornwall, UK

As featured on George Clarke's Amazing Spaces, Moontide is a luxury self-catering coastal cabin overlooking Whitsand Bay in the “forgotten corner” of Cornwall. Look forward to lazy mornings under the covers gazing out to sea, long walks on the beach with your dogs and al fresco suppers by the chiminea beneath a blanket of twinkling stars.

Whether looking for a dreamy proposal, a refuge for relaxation or somewhere to inspire the soul, Moontide ensures an unforgettable stay. Hugging a prime cliffside position overlooking the beautiful expanse of Whitsand Bay in South East Cornwall, it is the ideal self-catering coastal retreat for couples and singles wanting to indulge in some precious ‘me time’. If you can tear yourself away from the seaside, head to the utopian gardens of the ancient Port Elliot estate. It is believed Napoleon once cast his gaze across the land here as he sailed into exile and hailed it ‘the most beautiful place in England’.

Beneath the charcoal cladding, a sumptuous Scandi-style interior provides a cosy space in which to sit back and watch the ocean. Comprising an open-plan living area, cosy double bedroom and wet room with walk-in shower and WC, it offers the perfect sense of intimacy and space. Pull open the French doors to hear the sounds of the ocean and let the sea breeze tickle your senses. Laid-back mornings are best spent spying on soaring peregrines and dolphins playing in the surf from the comfort of your king-size bed, while evenings are cosiest sharing chocolates in front of the woodburner.

High on the cliffs, Moontide’s wrap-around deck is an idyllic vantage point from which to admire the dramatic seascapes rolling towards the horizon. Let your partner sizzle up a feast on the barbecue while you recline on the inviting daybed and listen to the shrill cry of seabirds and the whisper of a breeze. When you can pull yourself away, don your walking shoes and tread the coast paths, or hop in the car for adventures further afield. Dubbed the county’s "forgotten corner", enjoy the austere simplicity of a traditional Cornwall where the fishing villages are authentic and beaches unspoilt.

From the owner

“When the opportunity arose for us to purchase this amazing cliff top retreat, we literally jumped at the chance! It is such a special place to spend quality time with your nearest and dearest. The stunning coastal views and cosy cabin make this a truly magical space to stay.”

From the owner

Where our lovely seaside home now proudly perches on the cliffs, a derelict cottage once stood in great need of some TLC. Knocked down and completely rebuilt in 2007, it was then refurbished in 2014 by the previous owner with much love and care to create the cosy coastal cabin you see today.

Whitsand Bay, one of the lesser known coastal areas of Cornwall, is often referred to as the county’s hidden gem, making it even more special to stay here, in our opinion! The stunning beaches, sheer cliffs and breathtaking views make getting up on a Sunday morning so much easier.

We hope you fall under Moontide’s spell every bit as much as we have and that you get to enjoy all the many things there are to do in the area. There’s only one thing we absolutely demand of all our guests: to have a really good time during your stay.

Guest Testimonials

We have had the best time, this was a holiday of a lifetime and one we want to repeat. Moontide was a dream. We had all kinds of plans to go out & about but the place was heavenly and we didn´t want to budge. We stocked up the fridge, fired up the BBQ & just enjoyed every precious moment. Thank you so much for letting us stay at Moontide. Here´s hoping we will be writing a review again next year!

We are settling back into normal life after the most amazing week away. Moontide was just fabulous, from the view to the finishing touches. The decor was amazing and there was absolutely everything there that we could possibly need to make it our home from home for our honeymoon. We look forward to booking with you again in another one of your lovely properties. We would love to return to Moontide but we want to keep it special as our honeymoon.

We loved everything about the property; It´s remoteness, the wood burner, the privacy, the facilities. It´s a really beautiful cabin in a breathtaking location. All in all it was absolutely delightful, peaceful, secluded, very well equipped and quite beautifully appointed and decorated, excellent allocation of space, very comfortable bed and sofa; a delightful get-away.

What a fantastic week we´ve had, lovely sunny weather, great barbecues, lots of champagne and brilliant views. We have had a fantastic mini moon at Moontide and are sad to leave. We walked to Millbrook (lovely little village) and walked along the beach everyday. Moontide is a gem and has everything you want and need and we will definitely visit again.

Having spent lots of holidays with our children in Cornwall, we wanted the first one without them to be really special. Moontide was just what we were looking for. Thank you very much for sharing this amazing place. We enjoyed every minute, even the walk up and down the cliff. We hope to come back soon!

Moontide is in an amazing location and a real discovery with fantastic views in each direction. There is a feeling of being right above the sea that we haven´t had in other coastal properties.

A lovely, quiet and secluded bolt hole - relaxing days, lovely lunches - we can thoroughly recommend the Halfway House, Kingsand. Gorgeous evenings in front of the fire, great selection of DVD´s to watch! An amazing view, I don´t know who was more excited - us or the dog! A fabulously relaxing way to prepare for Christmas. Thank you!

What an amazing location, a real discovery! There were fantastic views in each direction and a feeling of being right above the sea that we haven´t had in other coastal properties. It´s a pretty small ´beach hut´ but very nicely done - nice and warm, with all the mod cons.

What a beautiful house. We have loved our stay here with cosy fires, films, winter barbecues and incredible views. We had an amazing walk to Rame Head Chapel, visit to Kingsand and even a chilly sea swim! Thank you for an amazing week.

Fantastic doesn´t seem a good enough word to sum up our honeymoon at Moontide. We´ve spent many hours gazing out to sea and drinking in the ever changing view which we never became tired of! Just what we needed to recharge our batteries and help us reconnect with all that´s good about life. The very best start to married life we could have hoped for. We enjoyed a gorgeous meal at The View. Thanks for the torch! Expect to hear from many of our friends who we´ve recommended to stay here too.

This has been a magical getaway and will always hold a special place in our hearts as it´s where we got engaged. The views are amazing and took our breath away when we first saw it. The early walks on the beach and the cosy nights in by the fire could not have made our weekend more perfect. Thanks for sharing this little piece of heaven with us. No doubt we will return sometime in the future, so we can recall the moment we got engaged.

Perfect place to bring in the New Year! The weather was horrible but to come back to a warm and cosy setting and watch the waves rolling in was amazing! This place is brilliant to relax and unwind. We do not want to leave. Thank you for this idyllic home.
