Linea | Luxury Coastal Holiday Home | Ilfracombe, North Devon

Combe Martin, Ilfracombe, Devon, UK

Blending into the dramatic coastal landscape and perfectly positioned for watching the sun journey across the sky, Linea is a luxurious labyrinth of clean lines and shifting shadows near Ilfracombe in North Devon. A luxury self-catering retreat with an infinity pool fusing into the horizon and enormous beds peering out across the Atlantic, this dream architectural home will have you scrambling to dwell between its glass walls forever.

Uniting the modern man with Mother Nature in wholly refined harmony, here is a luxury self-catering holiday home which not only complements the scenery in which it sits, but enhances it. With a pared-back, design-led interior, this luxury cliffhanger is as much a space for families as it is for creatives wanting a blue-sky thinking coastal retreat in Ilfracombe. Despite its stature and all-encompassing 180-degree sea views, Linea is unobtrusive in its stance, and best viewed up-close. Beyond its sleek yet sumptuous confines, North Devon’s coastline beckons with secret coves and turquoise seas.

Summer days in this glorious coastal retreat are best spent admiring the hundred shades of blue that are paraded from sea to sky. Stay in bed to soak up the views from the comfort of cloud-soft pillows or steal a coveted spot in the living room, doors wide open to greet the sea air. Whilst winter brings with it somewhat more mercurial weather, it adds all the more reason to escape to Linea to make the most of the show. Get comfortable on the sofa, hot drinks cradled in hands, and look on in awe as sea foam lashes the windows and a raging storm stirs the clouds into turmoil overhead.

With an infinity pool which looks as though it could drift on forever into the Big Blue, Linea’s exteriors are perfect for those long summer days which seemingly never end. Mojitos are best enjoyed around the pool under the hot sun, a fresh sea breeze gliding in with the tide keeping things cool. If the party feels the need to roam, the South West Coast Path ambles both north and south from the property, with sweeping sea views and lofty precipices for adventure en masse. Return home to salute the day with a Salcombe gin on the outdoor sofa, watching the colours explode.

From the owner

“From the pink morning glow that cocoons the house to the seemingly endless skies, ‘magic light’ isn’t time-constrained here. Despite the pared-back minimalist interior, there’s a real homeliness to Linea and its close-to-the-elements setting offers pure rejuvenation for the soul.”

From the owner

I fell in love with the coastal location of Linea long before the house you see now was standing here. Property is a passion of mine, and I worked closely with architect Guy Greenfeld to create the design for the site, which replaced an unassuming bungalow. Despite its impressive stature - and arriving for the weekend really never loses its appeal – there’s an unusual subtlety to the design.

It’s a really immersive experience staying at Linea, and it’s a house that works just as well whether we’re surrounded by friends and family for a sociable gathering, or when just myself, my partner and daughter come to stay. There are so many elements that contribute to the unique essence of the house; from the linear design to the light-filled spaces, the inside/outside flow, and of course many hours have been idled away poolside! But it’s the feeling of being enveloped by nature that I find most overwhelming when we stay.

Whether storm watching during extreme winter weather, taking to a paddleboard to explore hidden coves or simply sitting doing absolutely nothing, we hope that you leave feeling refreshed, rejuvenated and inspired.

Guest Testimonials

We had a fantastic stay at Linea, everything we wanted and needed was there. I have been renting houses for about 20 years all over Britain and I have got to say this has been the best so far, and definitely a future choice for us when down Devon way! Usually, the hardest part of taking the grandchildren is keeping them entertained when the weather is not so good, Linea is great for this, they were never out of the pool day and night. Our dog also had a lot of freedom as the property is very secure, so all in all I have to say it was a very relaxing break.

Linea was the perfect hideaway for our shoot, the way the light shifts throughout the day is truly remarkable. So many photo opportunities. I’d love to return with my family!

What a house! Never have I stayed at such an impressive and modern home, yet so full of warmth and home comfort. We loved every part of your thoughtfully designed space and its quiet seaside location.
