Seren Mor | Luxury Coastal Self-Catering | Pembrokeshire

Seren Mor

Newport, Pembrokeshire, Wales, UK

Nestled on the green cliffs of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park and winner of the RIBA Welsh Architect Award, this luxury self-catering coastal home on the westernmost shore of Wales is a real triumph. With huge horizon vistas through floor-to-ceiling windows and a wild garden which meets the Newport Estuary; Seren Mor seamlessly blends perfect, modern architecture with the wonderful organic world.

Described as “the most beautiful location for a house anywhere in the UK” by Sir Colin Stansfield-Smith, one of the UK’s leading architects of the 70s and 80s, Seren Mor stands proud above the water of Newport’s picturesque estuary. Completely sustainable and in prime position for watching the sun melt into the sea, this luxury self-catering home has the most enviable of coastal locations in all of Wales. Throw open enormous windows and let the sea breeze tease through hair on the timber-decked balcony, play in the gardens, or simply gaze across the water to the chapel where the owners of this most marvellous creation were married.

Overlooking the estuary and with all but one bedroom on the lower floor, this upside-down coastal home has five bright bedrooms. The super king-size master bedroom, which resides downstairs, has a balcony and en suite with sunset views and a separate dressing room. There are a further three bedrooms on this floor, one with super king-size bed and en suite shower room and two with king-size beds that share the family bathroom. Upstairs, on the first floor is the final super king-size bedroom. Making the most of the superb panoramas, the open-plan living room and kitchen flaunts views to die for and is a heavenly spot to while away the day. While granny relaxes in the snug, let the children blow off steam in the TV room.

With a large terraced garden overflowing with wildflowers and butterflies, hidden clearings to discover and secret pathways leading to the beach, it’s no surprise that Seren Mor’s grounds are as gorgeous and as cared for as its interiors. Watch the world slowly wake from slumber with a morning coffee on the balcony, find a quiet spot with a view surrounded by vibrant blossoms and spend summer nights feasting with a unique stained-glass backdrop in the secluded garden dining area. For adventures further afield, walk the three miles to the top of craggy Carningli Mountain or take kayaks from the garden store for fun on the water.

From the owner

“Seren Mor was the product of a long journey. From falling in love with the house and its views as a child when the previous owners (who still live in the village) regularly threw open their doors to their friends and family, to the difficult decision to demolish the house and rebuild it, it has been a place of constant inspiration.”

From the owner

My father’s cricketing friend, Sir Colin Stansfield- Smith helped us realise the vision we had for the house: maximising the wonderful coastal views and the light it offers, whilst being sensitive to the environment and surroundings so as to melt into the hillside.

Latterly, John Pardey was an incredible architect to work with and his enthusiasm and excitement for the unique nature of the site was evident in the hours he spent 'getting it right'. Richard and I can honestly say there is nothing we would change about the design and finished product, we still get butterflies every time we drive down towards the sea from the top of the hill towards the house.

We are happy to share our home with you. I personally recommend painting and photographing whilst here; the light is unsurpassed, the sunsets offer an ever-changing tableau, the bird-life and vegetation a veritable treasure-trove of colours and vitality.

We hope you too have the feeling of never wanting to leave. Come rain or shine, it's a place to hang out, watch the world go past and chill.

Seren Mor is quite simply the most magnificent of homes in a heavenly place. My Mum and I have loved it as if it were our own home, and my Dad (who has been unwell this week) has not left the house since last Sunday- what better place could he be while feeling under the weather. He was utterly entertained by the ever-changing view and cosy in the luxury of Seren Mor. It’s been such a special week for us. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
