Filly Island | Luxury Self-Catering Cottage | Cirencester, Cotswolds

Blending a love of style with a big dose of ingenuity results in something truly quite magical here at Filly Island. This charmingly kooky self-catering abode began life as a store for the cart which the neighbouring mill's horse dutifully pulled upstream in the 1700s. Today this unique cottage in Cirencester is a beguiling melange of the industrial and the romantic, all sat upon a tiny island accessed solely by a humpback bridge.

Luxury self-catering in Cirencester, Gloucestershire

A passion for upcycling and a curious exploration of the unexpected are what makes this unique home stay so special. Pre-loved finds are revivified to bring about the quirky interiorscape at Filly Island such as fire bucket light shades and curtains made from old Hungarian grain sacks. A vintage mangle and cartwheel have been reimagined into statement pieces to stylishly adorn this unique cottage in Gloucestershire. The pretty Cotswolds scene outside the door makes this dreamy abode one you’ll be inspired to write home about.

Bedrooms and Bathrooms

The rustic double bedroom is sprinkled with luxurious touches such as an upcycled cashmere hot water bottle and waffle bathrobes. Imagination goes a long way at Filly Island, with a vintage pullied airing rack for hanging clothes instead of a wardrobe, maximising the cosy space. The adjoining bathroom has a striking red roll top bath with a shower over, a first aid box of ‘forgotten goodies’ and recycled milk bottles filled with shampoo and bubble bath to make you feel at home.

Situated in the pretty Saxon village of South Cerney just three miles from Cirencester, Filly Island sits on a tiny triangular island betwixt a millstream and the gurgling River Churn. Stand on the tip of the ‘island’ to enjoy views up the river to the village beyond, anyone for a game of Pooh sticks? Summer afternoons sat underneath the big sycamore tree threading buttercups and daisies into a chain will create cherished reveries which will last long after your perfect holiday ends.

For Relaxation

Spend afternoons sauntering around the charming Cotswolds villages with the only dilemma being choosing your favourite cake shop, or deciding whether you prefer the honey-coloured streets over the landscape of rolling hills which comprise this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Once the day is done there is nothing more heavenly than returning to the garden of your own tiny island with a G&T, watching as village life play's out before you. In winter the log burner is sure to create a warm, romantic ambiance.

There is parking for one car over the humpback bridge to the rear. There is a fridge with freezer box, coffee machine, electric oven with hob, microwave, washer dryer and dishwasher.

Our Take

Property Owner Mouse says

I was passionate about retaining the history of this old cart store by using turn of the century handmade items. It was also important to ensure that Filly Island is cosy, warm and unique. I have loved the challenge of finding new homes for unwanted artefacts and hope you love what I have created!
